  • What size cake boards are you all buying for the 3 tier cakes?
My cake doesn't look like all yours it looks wide and flat to me but all yours seem taller. mine measures 14 inches. This was my very first one http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.html?p=12794729&postcount=63 and am hopefully doing better ones now but they still seem wide and flat.

    Hi Kitiaracat,

My 3 tiers are usually on 10" round boards with the exception of the one I did for my mum which had so much stuff in it had to go onto a 14" board. I use appx 44 nappies on a 3 tier and usually include a bib, hat, sleepsuit, bodysuit, a bottle, 2 johnsons bottles of whatever usually talc & shampoo, soap, dummy. I put socks on the outside and 2 muslins and a blanket. Hope that helps. It's trial and error really until you find a style you're comfortable with.

There's a gorgeous white bear for £3.50 but hes not suitable from birth.

There's also a tiny Spencer bear (14cms high) for £2.50 and his bigger brother with a scarf for £5

    Hope that helps someone.
Officially a non-smoker but still rounder than recommended :p

Kitiaracat, I use 12 inch boards for 3 tier.I put 13 nappies around the edge of bottom tier and about 8 inside that. The blanket bulks the size out and it depends what you put in the middle of this. You might have to add more or take some out. I’m afraid I’m boring and put the same items in so I know what to use. I use 35 nappies in total. (I’m still learning too!)

Paddington – I was also worried about the age thing for the toys. I got lions and elephants from Asda which are exactly the same but one is “from birth” and the other “from 6 mths”. Something to do with the pile shedding. I decided I was going to use them anyway (got beany toys as well, unsure about age) and put the toy label in the cake and also on the ingredients tag. I would love to buy just from birth but they are so expensive at the moment.

I think the toys would be just sat on a shelf for a while and as long as the age is stated somewhere then I think it’s O.K.

How do you all feel about this????

I agree Moonpenny as long as its on the tag and you've listed the age you should be fine. I love the M & S toys might go and get some this week as i've got a few neutral cakes ordered and I can't get any more lions.
I use 8 inch for the 3 tiers and they fit just right - but like you said i'm always tweaking the amount of nappies I use and I tend to stick to the same designs and contents because its easier.

    Hi Moonpenny,

I try and use toys from birth but did recently do one with eyeore from Sainsburys which was from 12 months I think. I just put his tag inside the cake and put it on the ingredients label as well. I think as you say can sit on a shelf until then, I'm quite sure newborns aren't usually short of teddies!

I love the polar bear from m & s at the mo but he's 12 months too. I'm going to have another go at getting an account with the distributor of beatrix potter this week so not rushing into buying anything.

Shelley, I'm the same as you, how is it that you use same nappies, blankets and contents and yet it's difficult to get them the same!

    Hi Shelley,

Glad you agree about the toys. I know it’s been brought up before!!! Mind you, I couldn’t resist the new (yellow) baby lion in Asda. He’s really squidgy!!!

I got 3 cream ducks from M&S for £10. They have got wobbly heads and I love them. They look a bit bigger than I imagined though.

Have to keep writing my posts in word as I am being disconnected all the time. It’s a pain.

Hello! Been shopping again!...but came home empty handed to my husbands delight! but then to his dismay I went straight on the laptop as wanted to buy some M&S baby clothes and remembered i had a 10% off code at home! So I used that online instead he he. I have ordered the white bunnies from M&S too as they were 2 for 3 and seemed quite neutral. Liked the teddy too but thought the bunny looked cuter :)

Hi Shelley- you dont happen to remember the name of the ebay company you used for your sign do you? How quick was he to get it delivered to you? I've come up with a design for my banner so hoping somebody will print it and get it back to me in time. Not sure what to get it printed on though- vinyl, cloth or just glossy card? any suggestions? I'm not even sure i will be able to put one up so may need to pin/fix it to the front of the table cloth.
I have spent so much this last few weeks there really is no going back!
Met a midwife at a kiddies birthday party yesterday and she took a few postcards from me and is going to put them up in her maternity ward. Shes also going to ask the postnatal ward manager if I can leave a sample of one of my cakes there on a little display! That would be perfect!!!

    Thankyou!
