EHIC website has crashed - but don't be tempted to use a shyster site

You say you aren't conceding anything, but you just said MSE don't have a solution, and you are unable to provide a counter argument to the point I'm raising.
DWP maintain the EHIC database, and can be accessed in the absence of you having the physical card. I've posted on this previously.

And I'm not being drawn on any individual services being offered by any specific third party website. I'm not vouching for any, or encouraging their use. I'm simply pointing out they exist, and the issue in the OP could be solved by using them.Legal team on standby0 -
Personally I think posters here have been too generous to malkie76.0

The challenge to provide a counter argument is open to you too.Legal team on standby0 -

Anyone who has more money than sense & wishes to to take your advice is welcome to do so.You could be tempted by a third party site who'll enter your details on your behalf when the site is up and running again (if, for example, you've left to go on holiday already).
Obviously not a fake site that takes your money and doesn't enter the details, but a legitimate 'check and send' type third party.
You even gave a link to one site that you think offers a value service. As I see it, you are convinced that ukehic.com is a 'value service' website and I'm just as convinced it isn't.
Do you have an answer to this?
As I'm taking my free EHIc away in the very near future, I guess that is the end of the discussion for me.
Apart from saying that as you've not answered the question I asked twice, you have conceded the point.0 -
Just wandered in here from another part of the board. Boy this thread is weird. I haven't read all the posts but would I be right in thinking the op was not to use unauthorized sites whilst the official ECHI site was down and then there is some long running argument about it being ok to use these sites?
Most odd.
The official site actually says
"Several websites exist that may charge you if you apply through them. These sites are unofficial and are not affiliated with the NHS Business Services Authority (NHSBSA); they operate without approval from the Department of Health (DH)."
Which is unlike the post office checking for passports which is official.

MSE has the recommendation not to use 'shyster' websites.

Then please provide a counter argument.Oh, I do think you are 'encouraging their use' ^^^^

I am absolutely categorically not encouraging their use - clear enough? So please stop suggesting as such.
After several pestering posts to provide an example of a third party website I linked to the first hit on google. I actually didn't really want to, but people claimed they didn't exist.
I also have not claimed they provide a 'value' service. I stated a 'valuable' service, but only under certain specific circumstances (ie those indicated by the OP).
You've resorted to misquoting me, and twisting my posts in an attempt to discredit me, and detract from the fact that you can't counter argue the point being raised. And we will never agree
We're not having a disagreement - you just can't challenge the point being raised.Apart from saying that as you've not answered the question I asked twice, you have conceded the point.
I did address it in my last post.Legal team on standby0 -

To summarise, the thread is about using a third party site when the main site is unaccessible, and you won't have internet access again before or during travelling. These third party sites offer a solution.Legal team on standby0 -

They do? Why would it help? If the main site is down how does using a third party site help at all?
Then why did the op advise not to use them?
Why does the official site advise not to use them?
Why would you leave applying for an EHIC until the last minute?
Why do you have such a bee in your bonnet about this?
Why didn't I think of charging people to get something that is free?Rational judgement, now, at this very moment.

The general premise is that the third party upload your details when the site becomes available again, at which point you may no longer have internet access to do it for yourself for free.
You'll note on this forum that posters frequently leave things to the last minute.Legal team on standby0 -

The one I looked at didn't appear to do that - it gave you access to the free site after you had paid. Not sure what it was bringing to the party at all.
Why are you so keen on the 3rd party sites?
Where are you in Europe that you don't have internet access?Rational judgement, now, at this very moment.
