It's over 24 hours since the site went down, but better late to the party than never I suppose!

You could be tempted by a third party site who'll enter your details on your behalf when the site is up and running again (if, for example, you've left to go on holiday already).

Obviously not a fake site that takes your money and doesn't enter the details, but a legitimate 'check and send' type third party.

Legitimate check and send site for an EHIC card - where is that ehic.oxymoron.com?

If the applicant has already on holiday they aren't going to get the card in time anyway.....

Hardly surprising when you see who runs the EHIC site for the NHS https://www.theregister.co.uk/2017/05/26/major_incident_at_capita_data_centre/

You don't need the physical card to receive treatment, providing the DWP has your details on record. What I'm suggesting is perfectly sensible.

Ah ok, which legitimate check and send site would you recommend?

I don't have any personal recommendations. Any that actual do what they promise would be satisfactory.

You don't get seen even if you do have a EHIC card, how are you going to get them to bother to check that you are eligible?

It also sounds like a system ripe for abuse. Why don't I set up a website, and sell information to illegal migrants. They just turn up at a EU country hospital, and claim to be so and so. If the hospitals do use the website to check, obviously I would say YES, provided they use the information I gave the illegal immigrant, because he paid me.

Applying for EHIC is a very simple thing to do.
I can't see why you would need to pay for 'check and send' for a EHIC.

The website is back up now anyway.

Unless they asked for another form of ID?
