EHIC website has crashed - but don't be tempted to use a shyster site

Like others I am at a loss as to the purpose of a check and send service. malkie76 could you point us to one of these legitimate sites please, so we can understand their purpose?0

Unless they asked for another form of ID?
I was in an accident in Brussells, and taken to a big hospital.
I can only say that my Travel Insurance and E-111 (before EHIC) were not on me, but I did have my wallet. My friend rushed back to where I was staying to get my passport, E-111 and Travel Insurance, which the orderly then refused to look at. All he wanted was payment, and gave me a receipt after I paid. This was not a private hospital.
The whole system is in denial, the NHS has trouble getting paid for treatments we give to EU nationals with EHICs as well.
They don't want to see your EHIC, and they don't want to see your passport: they just want to get paid before you disappear. I suppose if you claim to have no money, then they will call the Travel Insurance.0 -
I really don't think it is.
I really do doubt that there are any 'legitimate check and send' websites for EHIC.
MSE themselves warn people of using sites that charge.
There are plenty. The ones that take your money and don't enter your details are the ones to avoid.Legal team on standby0 -
Explanation given above. In the meantime, don't be tempted to go via a shyster site which will try to charge you £20 or more for the free card. They dress up like legitimate sites, using search optimisation tricks to appear high on Google but you should never pay for an EHIC card, see our 60 Seconds on Copycat Sites guide for more information.
There really aren't any 'legitimate' websites that charge to 'check and send' to get you a EHIC.0 -
You are entirely incorrect I'm afraid.
MSE is correct though, you should not pay for the card.Legal team on standby0 -
Then prove it by posting a link to a 'legitimate' website that offers a 'check and send' service.
First hit on google - https://www.ukehic.comNot only do we offer a review and submission of your EU Health Card for you, but we can also set up a reminder for you to renew your EHIC card when it is due to expire so that you are never left without it when you decide to travel throughout Europe on business or pleasure trips or holidays.Legal team on standby0
