Not in my area either, does anyone know of any other courses that are free?
  • Found another 'problem'
    Why it’s free

NVQ courses are fundable by the Learning and Skills Council. This means that the courses are normally free of charge to anyone over the age of 16 who doesn’t have a full Level 2 qualification or higher and who has been ordinarily resident in England for 3 years or more, as long as this residency has been for purposes other than full-time study. If you already have a full Level 2 qualification or higher the college/Training Provider may require a contribution from your employer.

So because I already have qualifications above level 2 I can't do this without me or my employer paying *sob*

i did apply for some of the courses but you had to be working.i am only doing the courses that im entitled to do which was next steps in it level 2 and first steps in it level 1,money management etc and maybe few more

so no you dont have to be working as when you apply they ask what your employment status is if your not working you have to send photocopied proof of income ie income support or whatever your on to them.
some of the courses are work related only anyway.

i have 3 gcses to my name (now u all tut lol) and i have still got to do a course with vision2learn.and if i complete this course which i will il get an nvq level 2 in IT

I thought for the NVQ courses you had to be in work - because the assessor has to visit you in the work situation. Your employer has to agree to the visit. So, if you are not working, I don't see how you can complete the iTQ.

And when you do get the iTQ, you will have a full level 2 qualification and will find there are virtually no more free courses available to you.

i may be wrong but free places only occur to low income and benefits people, im on income support and im on my 3rd course.failed on one so doing it again now and have done money management.

Yes, it is not correct to say that the free places are only available for low income people. OTOH, those with more, higher level, qualifications are less likely to have a low income. So keep studying!

As I remember, there are very few places around the UK that qualify for this.

Has anyone around the midlands / NW managed to enroll to one?

No it's not all low income at all - I work full time, as does my partner. Our collective income is just shy of 33K and I was funded. I think it's more to do with where you live tbh

ETA - My Quals are GNVQ Adv Hospitality and Catering with NVQ 2 Food Prep and I was told that was fine.

I get the general impression there is more than one kind of funding and it depands what you are eleigible for.

Well i have an HND which is a level 5 qualification, my tutors have been aware of this from the start and have at no stage been asked to contribute for my courses.

    Funding criteria change.

Are you doing a course at the moment? If so, when did you start and what is it?

I've done a free course with V2L in the past but now always either find that the course criteria already say you must not have a full L2 or higher qualification or, if it doesn't, and I apply, I get the message that I don't qualify because of a higher qualification.
