I have a focus too. The joie car seats are good as you can do a short seat belt method too if needed, which is what I need to do to get the every stages in my car. The original plan was that I would have the every stages in my car but for some reason this hasn't happened!! We've been really impressed with it, he is so comfortable in it, the two recline positions when rf are good, he sleeps so well in it which is good when we've done longer journeys. I had a play around with the inserts until I found set up made him most comfy.

Haha, I know that feeling, it used to be much easier when I could change and dress him in his cot, now I have to chase him around the room!!

We have good nights and bad nights, last week he had me up for two hours one night and three the next where he was wide awake but would cry in his cot so I had to sit with him on my lap. I'm really hoping he improves on his sleeping soon otherwise I'm going to really struggle when I'm back at work!! Someone did just suggest I leave him but I hate the idea of leaving him when he is crying, plus I know he will get so worked up we will be up even longer!!

Ahh Freddie, it sounds like he is really struggling with his teeth, poor thing. Have you tried the Gummee Glove? We had one for Mia in the early days and it was really helpful.

Approaching 13 months here and everything STILL goes in the mouth. Wondering when it will end?

Thinkpink, nights like that are so tough, especially when you go back to work. We did eventually do controlled crying with Mia around 8 months, cos I couldn't hack it any longer. I cried the whole time she cried. But it did work. After a couple of days, I was able to put her in her cot and she'd be asleep within 3-5 minutes.

BUT.......you have to do what you're comfortable with. If you can cope with the lack of sleep, and don't want to let him cry, then don't. There seems to be so much pressure to do things one way or another, but everyone is different. Do what you're comfortable with.

A couple of weeks ago i tried leaving him in his cot, but stood there, reassuring him, rubbing his back etc but he got himself in such a state I don't think either of us is ready for that at the moment!! I'm hoping that nursery will try him out so much he will sleep well!! We do have good nights, but he cut a tooth last week and I think have another one coming too. They are bothering him so he bites everything, including his daddy's fingers, he locked on the other day and my oh couldn't get him off, he had 7 little teeth marks on his finger!!

Grace is 8 months tomorrow and thinks she's 3 like her big sister. She is crawling, clapping hands, pulling herself to standing and even letting go with one hand and cruising! She's doing everything so much quicker than my first so the stairgates have gone back up on the top and bottom of the stairs.

She enjoys baby led weaning and was eating some risotto with her hands last night. Again this is different to my first who refused to touch food and was spoon fed until 2. No teeth yet but my first only got her first 2 at 9 months and then no more until 13 months so not surprised really.

If anyone lives near an In Car Safety Centre I highly recommend seeing them for getting a rear-facing car seat. They are experts and have the largest range in the country. They are also the only place that sell the Britax 2-Way Elite which is an extended rear facing seat that fits almost all cars as it doesn't use a foot prop and can even be fitted with a two-point seat belt in the middle seat, a useful option if you need 3 car seats in the car. It will be interesting to see how maby new seats there are since I looked 2.5 years ago.
Don't listen to me, I'm no expert!

I think the smacking his mouth thing is just a new thing he's doing for fun. I think he likes the sound - patting the hand over your mouth like playing cow boys and Indians.

the top of his first tooth is definitely stick up above the gum line now. I couldn't se it very easily two days ago but it's clear as anything now.

We have so far been lucky that he's a very good sleeper at night. Usually goes down without much fuss and 'was' often sleeping through. Only trickier sleep was his afternoon nap, real struggle to make him take it.

He has been struggling for the last week or so. It wasn't too bad last night, he did only wake once, but took an hour to get him back to sleep. He then woke up an hour later than usual this morning. He doesn't normally make up for it like that!

Oh thinkpink, it's very difficult I know. I had to get DH to put her down at night for the first week or so, and go in every 5 minutes for a cuddle, settle and put back down again until she drifted off. I'd read online that it's often better that way/less fuss, especially if you have been breastfeeding as they can smell your milk and will just get worked up about that. Not gonna lie though, it was bl00dy difficult still.

But, I do remember panicking about leaving her with her nanna for a few hours one day (so we could catch up on housework), as she would only nap in our arms at that point. She put her in her pushchair, and she fell asleep no issue!!! Baffling. But apparently quite common to sleep differently at nursery/childminder/nanna's. Fingers crossed nursery tires him out for you :)

Babies have shark teeth!! Mia can be a little chomper too, though she is doing that less frequently now, thankfully.

    Approaching 14 month here

C doesn't sleep at nursery so comes home knackered every day as she's there 8am to 5.30pm. She's getting on great though and seems to have really settled in since I've been back at work!

I managed my first holiday without her. 5 days away from her. Was hard but she got to spend quality time with her dad and I got some lie-ins. Tbf she is an amazing sleeper. We are so lucky.

Not walking yet but I don't think we are far away. She is saying so many words now though. It's amazing. Just now her favourites are grampa and bird. Also she finds it hysterical when she farts :rotfl:

ThinkPink, I'm back the end of August. If you're worried I'd definitely ask for extra settle sessions, they really helped us.

We got a recaro zero.1 car seat at 4 months as he hated his infant carrier and he's much happier in it, and it's way comfier looking. The infant carriers are so handy if you just need to nip into somewhere very quickly without getting them out though. We've also just bought a joie every stage for OHs car and travelling as we have to hire a car later in the year and I don't want to hire a seat. It's only just arrived so haven't used it yet though.

Anbesol is fantastic stuff, wish I had shares in it! We've always had broken nights but it must be even harder when you're used to them sleeping longer. There are safe ways to co-sleep if it's getting really difficult. I've read and heard a lot about sleep training and it sounds incredibly stressful for all, so don't feel pressured into it at all. Babies aren't meant to sleep all night, contrary to every grandparent and strangers opinion. :p

Hey, how is everyone getting on?

Baby is now 7 weeks old, can't believe how quick time is passing. He's coming into himself more and more each day. We've had a good few nights now where he has slept from the likes of 10-5 which is a godsend. Although he is now refusing to sleep during the day even though he is tired.

    Hope everyone is well :)
  • We are trying to work out child care costs for next year - my work is generally 3 days one week and then 2 days the next week (or 4 days then 3 depending on how many hours I go back to) they would be fixed days- does anyone know how flexible child minders / nurseries are with different weekly hours? Would we have to pay for the same amount of hours weekly? It would be for a 1 year old child.
