Teacher broke schools child safeguarding rules - WWYD?

When my children were in pre-school and then primary school, we were advised to have a back up with other parents arranged in case of a situation such as OP describes. A few times over the years I got a call from a parent who was stuck in traffic and collected the child/ren with my own. If the school were not aware of the arrangement they would just ring the parent to confirm.0

I can't believe the responses! I am a teacher and I would never leave any child with another child's parent in a classroom no matter how well I knew the parent. The head should be told as this totally breaks all safeguarding rules and the teacher should be disciplined. If the teacher had an emergency then the child should have been left with another member of staff. No excuses.0

Sadly IMO that's been the effect of all the government led teacher bashing in recent years.:(
Teachers used to be pragmatic and able to think on their feet now they resort to procedures. Head teachers applied common sense and would have had a 'word in the ear' of a teacher who made an error of judgement and needed guidance. Now it's all about 'watch you back'.
We're reaching an 'above my pay grade' situation with teachers who don't think. It's no surprise when you think that a teacher's annual salary when they start off is less than David Cameron paid for his new shed.
