Sounds to me like a riposte to another thread where the woman wanted to cut her labelled food bill since the partner moved in and would only use branded goods. And guess who wanted all the labels and all the baths every day?

Well it wasn't the female partner who was paying for most things.

I moved into my gf's house, I offered to do the weekly grocery shopping for her. She has lived on her own for 6 years so knows how much an average shop will cost her.

I have told her that she needs to double that weekly food budget and give me the money and I will feed us.

Goodbye the birds eye fish fingers that she likes for a quick tea on Mondays. Hello smart price ones put in the Birdseye box.

Goodbye pg tips. Hello basics bags in a tea caddy and the packaging carefully disposed of.

What else will I get away with? How much am I going To make each week??
Anybody who moved into my house and told me what I needed to do would be getting the 'goodbye', not the BE fish fingers or PG Tips.

Are you sure you're planning to save the money you 'make' out of your girlfriend?
No other plans for the money?

She earns good money and has been able to afford to live on her own for years - something that many many people can't do.

So that makes it alright does it to make money at her expense like this?

Sounds to me like maybe she's a bit better off than you and you're jealous. Most inappropriate imo.

Anyway - I bet you she'll notice any grocery substitutions you come up with and the game will be up. I'd certainly notice if someone substituted a carton of decent orange juice for one of T*sco Value "orange juice". The first is normal and the second is coloured water imo. I'd also spot the difference quick sharp between Nesc*fe instant coffee and own brand instant. People probably have different taste buds - but some of us simply won't go down a brand level - as our tastebuds would tell us the difference instantly.

I have a few extra ideas:

You can wait until she is sleeping and take some money from her wallet. Make sure it is small amounts as she is sure to notice bigger losses.

Find out where she keeps her valuable stuff and sell it on ebay.

If you can get access to her banking details you can take small amounts. Set up a recipient that looks legal.

Take out credit on her name forging her signature.

What you are proposing is not any better than these ideas.

I find this part of the thread unpleasant:

Yes exactly, but I should soon be seeing the debts coming down.
  • Are you for real?

Little factual lesson here - these are YOUR debts, not hers. It may not have occurred to you - but that means its YOUR responsibility (and not hers) to pay them off.

I'm certainly also wondering if this thread is a wind-up - as it's so ludicrous.

I could say "Oh - grow up" - but it may be that you've not even reached adult age yet.....I do hope the school holidays are going well...

    Definitely a wind-up......

The girlfriend is bright enough to get a job...has been financially savvy enough to support herself for at least 6 years....is still keeping an eye on her pennies (she knows what her weekly food bill will be - suggests she keeps to a budget).

And yet....she is dumb enough to think that two people in the house means DOUBLING the shopping bills?....I seriously doubt this...two can live almost as cheaply as one...no where near double the cost!

I almost wish it WERE a real scenario.....the dropping a brand in tea is the one that would immediately ring bells of warning for me.....I have tried dropping brands in some items. Some have worked very well - I tried a couple of own brands of oats before finding one that works so well I never went back to branded.. biscuits for dunking, yes I could tell the difference but not enough that it was worth buying big brand custard creams ( I have now saved even more money - and stopped buying biscuits to dunk!!!)....others were a disaster - and tea bags were one BIG mistake. Cheap teabags just make coloured water! I would know on cuppa number one what had been done!...and then it would be switching back to non-budget tea - and a non-budget boyfriend too!
