please enlighten us with your wisdom, preferably with reference to advice given from authoritative financial sources like the FCA or equivalents rather than what you've made up.

otherwise you can ...................... (help others in some other way?)

Your view is completely opposite to that of the advice in MSE articles and the financial conduct authority.

I've put quotes from their sites on the first post, if you bothered to read it.

Here is the quote again from the fca

If indeed in my case this was a cpa issue which I'm not sure it was.

Your view is not correct on how the system works. It should not have happened as I did the correct actions in advance.

    @derps
    grow up.
People are posting stuff which is not true. I'm just ensuring the message is clear and understood. But it looks like bolded capitalised in red still doesn't get the message across. People are still posting nonsense as fact even though I've quoted and provided links to the ombudsman's own site with its guidance.

You can lead a horse to water etc etc etc.

No it is not the view of 99% of posters on here.
Cancelling or closing a card does not cancel a Continuous payment authority.
If you had cancelled the CPA you could complain (and get a refund) of the payment made.
It seems you merely closed the card.

The rest as they say is history.

If you bothered to read and understand any of what I wrote especially the stuff in bold capitalised red, you would know that I did more than just cancel the card.

Yes you and your claimed 99% of posters are wrong. Read the advice from the regulator, the FCA, and related MSE articles.

Some people just can't handle the truth.

OP, if you are so convinced that you cancelled the CPA the same time you cancelled the card, why not complain to FOS and get some compensation, rather than in a distressing fight here?

    Am I missing something here.

You signed up to a paid service with a cancelled credit card?

    Why?

Did you think the payments would bounce and you'll get the service for free? Outside of the stuff about M&S failing, why did you fail to update your payment method considering you were still wanting services from Apple?

If you hadn't been charged on this card, you still signed up for a paid service, and require to pay it.

you need to read the posts. to make it clear i've put the main bits in bold capitalised red. you can't miss it.

if you have half a brain cell you'll understand once you've read the bits in red.

I have absolutely not made mention of or suggested i tried to gain something for nothing.

i simply want to make sure i am not being billed for something on a card i have cancelled and have no access to view bills on.

People normally do not respond to BOLD or RED shouts but out of ordinary I did. So why don't you complain to FOS rather than asking those clueless people with half brain cells here?

I've worked for a bank for 24 years. I spent 17 of those years in the Disputes team speaking to people just like you about cancelled CPA's. I think i know what i'm talking about.

However, as you obviously know more than i do, i'll sod off. :rotfl:

Why did you set up a recurring payment on a card that you cancelled?

You've already achieved your aims, as the card is no longer being billed. So what the hell is your complaint now? Getting a refund only to pay it again on another card? Just take the L and always make sure your payments methods are kept up to date with the vendors as well as the providers end. Not exactly rocket science.
