you will have to read my posts, but yes i complained to M&S.

yes this appears to be sorted.

no i don't need to complain to FOS, but will if M&S write to me again asking for money for this as they told me on the phone to ignore the letter asking for money & have written confirming account closure, yes i still have the previous letter confirming no further transactions to be processed.

a lot of people spending a lot of energy finding some way to blame me for this.

OP you're obviously right and we're all obviously wrong so i'd forget about it and move on. This isn't doing your blood pressure any good.

    ITS NOT MY FAULT.

Ultimately it is your fault as you had either wittingly or unwittingly given Apple a card to use to collect payments which you later cancelled and didn't tell them. It is your responsibility to do that & you wouldn't have had any issues at all if you had done that.

Until you accept responsibility for that then there is no point in discussing any other potential mistakes made by anyone else as you're too intent on shifting any and all blame so we can't tell if you're being objective or not.

You have changed your story a bit since the start of the thread, your complaint now seems to be that Apple contacted you to say that you needed to make alternative arrangements which you did and then M&S contacted you and said you needed to make a payment but when you contacted them they said the payment no longer needed paying.

Apart from the horror of receiving a letter and the time to make a phone call, I don't know what you're complaining about. I would love to hear the ombudsmans decision on that, when on the face of it the initial mistake was down to you. If your complaint is that you are hurt that you are being asked to accept some responsibility, then we'll have to agree to disagree.

you just dont get it do you.
you wouldn't have had any issues at all if you had done that.

i would have had issues if it was some other retailer that had charged the card and i had no notification a charge was made and if i never received a letter from M&S asking for payment.

someone else, that mse used as an example in their article, had AA membership charges accruing on a cancelled card last registered at an address he had moved from. He had no notification of the charges and only found out as his credit rating was impacted. I am trying to find a way to ensure a forgotten payment registered to a cancelled card doesn't cause me a headache in the future.

yes i spoke with M&S after starting the thread. i started the thread as i wanted to know how to stop a card provider accepting payments to a card that had been cancelled and i had asked them to stop processing all future payments on the cancelled card.
Until you accept responsibility for that

I CANCELLED THE CARD AND ASKED M&S TO STOP PROCESSING FUTURE TRANSACTIONS
Apart from the horror of receiving a letter and the time to make a phone call, I don't know what you're complaining about.

I CANCELLED THE CARD AND ASKED M&S TO STOP PROCESSING FUTURE TRANSACTIONS, THEY THEN PROCESSED A FUTURE TRANSACTION. I WANTED TO KNOW HOW TO STOP FUTURE TRANSACTIONS ON A CANCELLED CARD
I would love to hear the ombudsmans decision on that, when on the face of it the initial mistake was down to you.

THERE WAS NO MISTAKE ON MY PART, M&S DIDN'T STOP PROCESSING FUTURE TRANSACTIONS LIKE THEY TOLD ME THEY WOULD
If your complaint is that you are hurt that you are being asked to accept some responsibility, then we'll have to agree to disagree.

I CANCELLED THE CARD AND ASKED M&S TO STOP PROCESSING FUTURE TRANSACTIONS MY COMPLAINT IS THAT M&S PROCESSED A TRANSACTION 8 MONTHS AFTER CANCELLING THE CARD & 5 MONTHS AFTER I ASKED THEM TO STOP PROCESSING FUTURE TRANSACTION WHICH THEY CONFIRMED IN A LETTER THEY POSTED TO ME

if my card is stolen, and i phone to cancel straight away, can i expect them to honour transactions on the stolen card 8 months after its been cancelled? the answer should be no. Likewise the expectation is that once a card is cancelled future transactions should not be honoured. Also there is no evidence Apple use CPA's for payment of their services.

    This!

Graduating from normal text through shouty upper case, bolding and underlining and now into bright red, spontaneous combustion is probably only another few posts away....

The sooner people stop mis quoting me and then blaming me for the failing of the card provider the sooner I'll stop using bolded upper case text in red.

I've repeated what the issue is many times over yet some people on here are insistent cherry picking words and phrases that suit their own narrative deliberately ignoring the other words that provide factual content.

I'm hoping those people take note of the capitalised bolded coloured text and then move on to pour misinformation on other people's threads.

It doesn't really matter what you want, it's happened, it's how the system works. M & S can't stop debits, they can dispute them once they've debited as long as you've advised both M & S and the supplier. Simple.

Your view is completely opposite to that of the advice in MSE articles and the financial conduct authority.

I've put quotes from their sites on the first post, if you bothered to read it.

Here is the quote again from the fca
REMEMBER: IT IS YOUR RIGHT TO CANCEL CONTINUOUS PAYMENT AUTHORITIES DIRECTLY WITH YOUR CARD ISSUER
If indeed in my case this was a cpa issue which I'm not sure it was.

Your view is not correct on how the system works. It should not have happened as I did the correct actions in advance.

    @derps
    grow up.
People are posting stuff which is not true. I'm just ensuring the message is clear and understood. But it looks like bolded capitalised in red still doesn't get the message across. People are still posting nonsense as fact even though I've quoted and provided links to the ombudsman's own site with its guidance.

You can lead a horse to water etc etc etc.
