JOOI, I did a quote for Powershop this morning and it was in the top 5 for my area and usage. Not tempted to return, though, as I'm getting green electricity for around 8p/kWh (yes, 8) with Agile Octopus. Charging my car at times when the half-hourly prices are the lowest is what's bringing the average price for the month so low.

It used to be that Half-hourly (HH) metering was applicable to heavy users (Think steel mills, railways etc.,) whereas the "normal" (domestic) users were on Non-Half Hourly (NHH) metering.
If NHH is open to the consumer then this would be amazing for those who can monitor the Price per KwH as they were consuming it as the price fluctuates depending upon demand of the consumers and supply by the generators.0 -
I recently requested a refund of all my powerpacks with a discount < 14%.
The refund was held as a credit balance.
It has reduced to zero with +20% discounted packs purchased over the last 2 months.
All you need to do is to ask Powershop how many packs you have with a discount of < x%*, they will come back to you in a few days and you tell them which you want to have refunded.
*You need to decide what the value of x% is right for you.

Top Dog Special Pack
New special pack this morning - "Top Dog".
In my case a healthy 30% discount for the equivalent of 5 days electricity.2 -
Only 25% for me
Cost £24.68Worth £32.91
I've forgotten why the discounts differ between PS Customers, is it:
1. Because of my credit Balance? - £493 (16 Weeks)
2. My consumption - 12,000 kWh, single mechanical meter
3. Or the fact I live in Yorkshire?
I'm sure one of you has sat down and worked this one out already!
The other question I had was to do wit the the high discounts being offered compared to the "Future Packs" (14% or less being offered to me (May 14%, June 11.9%, July 14%).
I would have expected the future packs to have a higher discount.
Dare I say that the discounts offered are a bit like a one armed bandit - only PS know what they will be!1 -

Further to above I noticed my discounts dropped after I did what you did and refunded lower discount packs.0

4. Because I requested and got a refund of everything purchased at 1a 4% or less "saving" and repurchased at a higher level of discount.....
Perhaps it's time for me to ask PS them directly why the difference of 5%.... on Hot Dog?
I'l wait a few days until the "Old Sairs" of this forum have a chance to comment....

My understanding is.. When in your second year your tariff changes... But the main reason for the difference is they don't have to try balence out those first months to ensure you make top shopper.. Because you start the second year with the power packs you need and should have the discounts needed for the first few months.. rather than are playing catch up to ensure you make top shopper (I bet by just under 30 quid in first year and am on track to do this again.. I'm a high user disabled household). Powershop is a long ball game.. The math used however is hard to understand for many... I'm crap at explaining why I wouldnt personally get any powerpack refunded but I will try.. as the prices do go up (and rarely down) this lower ones come into play as your power packs are always worth the full price they were when you bought it at not what you paid as such.. That eventually becomes worth more than ones bought at a time energy cost more so will become most valuable during summer months when the new ones may have the same %off but the older one bought at same % off actully gives you more value for money so is the one used at this time. Hope that makes sense.1
