Good news about relative, and well done on the weight loss!"Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do". Eoin McGee2 -
It's a very good saving on your groceries. I also find I spend less if I have to carry it: even walking around the shop carrying a basket helps s the weight warns me if I'm getting more than I can comfortably carry.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

Cherry, to restrict my grocery shopping I don’t use a basket but put items into my reusable bags. It also means I don’t get to the check out needing to buy more bags. We got further news from the hospital yesterday. Young relative to have major surgery in next 4-6 weeks, grateful that nothing appears inoperable.
car went in for repair yesterday, was told it would be ready for today. I really hope so as I have a 9.30 meeting tomorrow at a fairly remote client location, not accessible by public transport and taxis in the region of £25 each way. It’ll be a hefty bill and the money is there in the emergency fund but I truly resent taking it out. How times have changed!
yesterday I spent the day at an on line conference. I had attended previously and have to report that it was a lot less informative this year. Still, a free 6 hours CPE. Today will be a mixture of work things and the reclamation of a room of doom as I need to make it fit for public view tomorrow when someone is coming to the house.
today I am grateful for
positive if not good health news
assistance from dd re the house
being able to attend a conference from under the duvet

It's daunting to have major surgery looming, but as you say, this is being treated as operable which is positive news. Also that they will be on the road to recovery some weeks before Christmas.
It's nice your DD has given you a hand with the house. Once they get to adulthood it's harder to push for that!
I hope the car is sorted out today and fit for use before you have to pay for a taxi.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

Well, dh was over at his parents so no weigh in to report. DD and I managed to rub along quite easily and we visited young relative meeting up with other family members while there. The house is reasonably tidy, some work stuff got done and, fan fare please, the bathroom shower has been reinstated. DD did say that she had forgotten how nice the downstairs one feels. Fortunately the weather wasn’t too cold as it’s on an exterior wall, in a tiny room with no heating. The car is back and came in under budget. I attended my Thursday meeting and all went well. The flip side is that I paid a ridiculous amount for a sub par service but have to take it on the chin as I should have more fully researched what was to be provided.Today starts the holiday countdown with work being planned in to hopefully avoid the mad rush.Today I am grateful for
young relative appearing to be in good spirits
a fairly tidy house
catching up with a former colleague and offloading some stuff

It all sounds positive! Especially the shower, the visit and getting on with DD. A shame about the cost of the car work but at least all is safe and if you make a note of the things you weren't happy with, you can use that to your benefit in future.
Holiday prep is a good motivator for getting your head down and ploughing through work in the short term. I hope you can feel you've made progress there.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)
