Well done with the blood sugar levels.
What is is with builders. I’ve just given a big heavy spade to some lovely workmen next door that was left by a workman that did some work for us 5 years ago. We’re still waiting for him to come back to collect it and finish the clearing up…..and trying to get someone to give a quote 😳😳😳January spends - £587.583 -
A completely random and boring post follows that I need to get down on virtual paper to be read as a reminder by me, when needed. So, during the week I invited a relative for lunch along with 4 boys aged between 5 and 10. I prepped some stuff the previous night that I then decided to discard as it just seemed like it had been in the freezer too long but I identified an alternative and took out of the freezer to defrost. This was to feed the children and I was baking for the adult. It was something they would like, that I enjoy but rarely gets made as dh isn’t a fan.
About 15 mins before they arrived, with the children food underway, I realised I’d messed up the baking recipe but adding too much sugar. First instinct was to panic and run to the shop. Instead I looked at what I had in the house and instead made a double batch that would balance out the sugar used. Ok, so lunch was a bit late but it was well received and my visitors got an unexpected doggy bag of the excess goods.
why I need to set this out is that it’s the first time in recent history that I realised that I could address a cooking / baking disaster and make things work. I tried speaking to dh re this but all he could get was that the baked goods turned out well. While that’s true, for me it was more about the means by which they did. I know it was a really obvious solution but up to now, I wouldn’t have had the faith in myself to execute it.I just need a way to remind myself that I’m not as useless as I frequently feel.

Thank you all. I knew there would be people on here who get it. So, the travelling 2 lbs have toddled off again this week and sugars are within range. Some work stuff has been despatched while other stuff is in train having progressed over the week. With a push today, I should be close to caught up. Then any days where there’s nothing on, will be declared as days off. If I can build this into a routine, life will become a lot easier. On the downside, yesterday I had a spending splurge that was completely unjustifiable. I’m annoyed at myself as it was a verucca salt moment. So two very small items will be entering the house.
Yesterday dh started to declutter a set of three plastic drawers so there’s stuff to be dumped, stuff to be shredded then into the brown bin, stuff in the recycling and a charity shop bag. There are also two watches to be sold. We offered one to ds but he declined on the grounds that he wouldn’t wear it enough to justify it. Hopefully we will get some money for these.
on Friday I was putting some stuff into the car boot and our bear decided to jump in. I’m guessing her previous owners had a differently shaped car as we can’t close ours with her in it. So she sat, a princess bear, in the open boot being admired by all who passed by and not even treats could tempt her out. She’s also not a dog to be picked up. It was so funny. In the end, we only got her out by folding down the back seats and shutting the boot. She then exited through the door. Our builder made a reappearance on Fri and we now have scaffolding in place needed for the next project. I may be being overly optimistic but I am starting to see things coming together. If this keeps up, I may talk to my gp(if I can) about reducing my anti depressants.
Right, gotta go and get some work cleared. Today I am grateful for

Your baking solution shows how resourceful you are! (And generous).
It's great that you can see progress with 'things coming together'. Do you ever look back on early pages of your diary? It could be useful to show yourself, through your own words, that you really have come a long way.
Love the story about the dog. She will eventually have you trained to open the boot for her to sit in while her subjects do her homage.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)
