What’s the saying - It’s only a bargain if you need it. So well done on not being sucked into the voucher. That said I’ve stocked up on soap powder and the like with vouchers in the past. But I haven’t actually used many this Christmas as I didn’t need much.January spends - £587.584

Today would have been my dad’s birthday. It was always the day that our decorations stayed up until but they came down as late as possible yesterday as dd flies to oz later today and she guards her tree related responsibilities fiercely. I think she’s convinced that I would charity shop a lot if I had my way - she’s probably right.
yesterday a piece of work went out the door which is good. I felt such a relief. Today will be a bit manic as I have a funeral to get to at ten, then dd to Dublin airport and then for our hotel break. Tomorrow I am determined to pick up a decent sized diary and get a plan in place.Today I am grateful for

Our decorations used to go up on my sister's birthday (I don't know why then, and not a day later, though I suspect it was a festive sort of thing to do). It's interesting that traditions can be founded in things like this, but poignant to look back and remember.
I hope your daughter has a good flight. Is she working in Oz? We went a few years ago as it was on DH's bucket list, and despite me not being at all interested beforehand, it was one of the best holidays ever.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

Cherry, dd is in nz and oz for just over two weeks and will be face to face working for six of the days. She has been twice before but stayed in the one place, this time she gets to travel. We safely deposited her at the airport and went for our overnight stay via an outlet village where not even a cup of coffee was purchased. I’m not sure if it’s because I’m continuing to be anti stuff bought just for the sake of it or what but shopping has limited appeal currently.Dinner in the hotel was amazing but we both had difficulty sleeping due to the heat. When we set off, it was to drive through ice and heavy fog. The diary was not considered as I just wanted to get home without stops and we had some scooby snacks in the car. We only stopped within 5 mins of home to pick up bread and veg.
Monday and Tuesday saw work going out the door but both days were tiring for different reasons. Today I’m aiming to get things set up for next week.Other decision of note is that I am carrying on last year’s decluttering count until Sunday as we are still playing catch up with actual disposals of stuff identified to go elsewhere. Right, need to get going.

I hope your DD gets to see something of the countries she's travelling to. Mind you, she must feel the jetlag too so that, combined with work, will limit what she can do.
You're doing very nicely with avoiding extra spending.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

Milann, both my children are travelers- not sure from where they get it. The only continent neither has been to is Antarctica though I think Asia was more by stopovers than destinations. There’s generally lots of caffeine ingested to pack as much in as possible then crash for a few days when back home.
yesterday was an early start at a client site. Afterwards I nipped into Lidl to grab some milk, etc. but instead recreated a scene from the exorcist as, without notice, I was violently ill at the end of an aisle. One lady got staff and provided me with tissues. Staff were great but I just wanted to get home where I felt sorry for myself and crawled under the covers. It meant I rescheduled an online meeting but got a few things done late in the evening.
this morning I bit the bullet and called my gp about a tiny lump that has been in situ for a fortnight at my eye. I’m currently waiting on a callback and am wondering if he’ll try dealing with it by phone! I’m only bothering as it’s where there’s scar tissue and additional skin so am a bit cautious. It’s also the reason it remains unsqueezed.
we got our quarterly gas bill through yesterday. Just over four figures but we’ve had two outgoings reduced this month. We desperately need a smaller/ more fuel efficient house but until dd gets her work situation settled, that’s not going to happen and while we rely on thermals and oodies I refuse to work and live in the cold while we can manage to pay the bills.I think the open fire will be lit for at least part of the weekend as the fuel for that has been pre purchased. On other news, little has been spent and one additional item added to what’s to go. This weekend is for recycling, charity shopping, dumping and organising with a budgeted for takeaway.Today I am grateful for
