I'm sorry that the family has lost both those older people. It seems to have been a long process, too, though time now seems to pass unusually slowly to me so perhaps when we look back it will seem less. Being able to have the funerals together is a real mercy.
You seem to be in a positive position financially. Even if you don't take the risk of paying all the mortgage off, if you are able to overpay at all you will be within sight of the end.
I don't know if your dog would benefit, but I've heard good things about 'golden paste' for older dogs. It's a mixture of turmeric, black pepper and some sort of binding agent and can be made at home. I think the main active agent is curcumin which is anti-inflammatory.
You've reminded me my signature is way out of date (last year!) so perhaps I ought to do something about it.
Good to hear staff are returning to work. We're overstaffed too but someone has just gone sick... and in our case the situation is likely to change as more people are discharged to us. Have you finished the clearing out process at work or can you deploy surplus staff to work on that?

It is great that the couple could be buried together.
I love the thought of your DD Facetiming the dog who wasn't interested.

That's great about the possibilities for the mortgage! Even if you don't do it, knowing you could must be a relief."Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do". Eoin McGee8

I agree with Jwil - must be amazing to know you could clear your mortgage if you chose. Glad you got a break this weekend - well deserved.Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

so someone due back on Saturday has thrown toys out of her pram and will be off an extra week. She was aware of this last week and failed to tell us. Yesterday we advised that we were open for referrals based on anticipated staffing levels.Apart from that, things went okay and I was able to bring left over dinner home with me which did both of us with some for the furry one. She was a complete madam last night making use of her selective deafness. I’m standing within touching distance and she pretends not to hear. She’s ridiculous but she does make me smile. I will give the golden paste a go to see if we came make life any easier for her. DH is looking at the ingredients.Today we have full shifts in so I may deliver some training. Or, we may get a referral which would be good. Yesterday while going to the bank, I noticed dh’s favourite bakery had reopened to one customer at a time. I stopped in and they had a restricted range that didn’t include one of my normal purchases. They did however offer to make some for me so I need to go back today. I also need to try sourcing disinfectant wipes as we are running low. Still it’ll mean that the day is broken up.
today I am grateful for

I’m sorry to hear about the older couple but the double funeral will make it a little easier for the family, although to loose 2 family members so close must be really hard.
Good news on the mortgage- it’s good to know if it came to it you could pay it off.Work sounds challenging again.....not sure how you do it.January spends - £587.588 -
Glad you have a dog that makes you smile - our does too especially when it chases our cat (oops). The cat frequently gets his own back. Sometimes they even go to sleep next to each other.Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

well as they say, it doesn’t rain but it pours. Or leaks. Got into client yesterday to find the water tank overflowing into the floor below. This meant we discovered that the key to the fuse box was missing, then there were additional fuse boxes, that an emergency plumber is hard to come by at present, etc. It was a stressful morning though the plumber one of our trustees came up with came within an hour of contact and was an absolute star. On that basis coupled with him currently having capacity, I've given him a to do list and he will call to schedule a visit. While I agree with competitive procurement, at the minute I’m more concerned with keeping those we can rely on, in business. The to do list in that place gets longer every day. Unfortunately with the plumbing crisis, I forgot to make an 11 o’clock return but got it in before close of play yesterday.
as of last night, we have one additional service user with another due today. We are looking at two a day being referred. We should also have a staff member returning today but that remains to be seen. There is an element of hypocrisy around this absence that does not sit comfortably with me.Our new intake will let me see if my new procedures will work. If I can get these embedded now, we may have a chance to make big improvements going forward.I looked into the golden paste for the dog. However, it doesn’t look like an option. However, we were directed to an alternative where various reviews mentioned positive effects for elderly labs so that was ordered. Fingers crossed for that.On mse news, I got a disputed 50 sbs awarded and cashed in a £5 scratch card without buying another. I need to start thinking about making each penny have a purpose. I also need to get a sit down with dh to create a financial plan. I don’t know how but I have been hit with both interest and late payment on my credit card this month. It looks like there was a delay with the bank processing and I’m not at all happy. It was definitely paid a few days before it left my account. Things are going to be tough for everyone when we get out of this. ThE last thing we need is for me to take my eye off the ball.

It's always good when you find a reliable practical person with capacity to help. Usually they are booked up! So while you could have done without the flood, I suppose having him will sort of pay off in terms of things being fixed?
Good, too, to have a possible option for treating the dog. I hope it works well.
I hope you get the chance to follow up the late payment with the bank. That's not acceptable. I'm not surprised things are all up in the air at the moment (a small delivery here took about two weeks and DS2 got delivery of, of all things, half a bed...) but where it leads to loss for the customer it's not right. I think costs are already going up, either because basic brands aren't always available or because we are paying to get things delivered, and as more businesses go under some things are going to be harder to get. I can't help feeling growing my own onions may not entirely solve this.
