That sounds great INOD, good progress in the house. Will the building work take a long time?

Youve had quite a rollercoaster ride since I last popped in inod.

Sending positive vibes for your mum and hope your OH has started to sort out his priorities.

  • :cool:Mr wii reports a 1 lb increase. Tbh, I’m quite impressed that a month after a hardcore diet, only 2 lbs are on but I want to do it again. Even if I only lost half a stone this time, I’d be delighted. I also have my day procedure on 14th and the lower your blood sugar, the less chance of infection and scarring. Yesterday I went to the client as a meeting had been arranged so I had said I would provide on site cover. The meeting cancelled but I had committed so went in. I got something cleared which was good.

On other news, slow progress is being made on the cupboard but a few things were disposed of e.g. cornflour bb June 2014! One item has been earmarked for eBay. So, drawers have gone to the garage and I’m querying if we need a smaller bread bin than our two tier one given that most of the time, there’s just the 2 of us.

I priced up the tiles needed for the hearth in the sitting room. The cost from the only supplier I can find to replace them with something close to like for like, is over £700. Not sure that’s feasible within the current work. I’m gobsmacked. I’d want a floor done for that price.

I’m still really behind on work stuff and funds are getting low. Ive decided that I’m upping my monthly payments to me to £800 a month. This is still within my tax allowance so there’s no additional value to putting it into a pension plan. Also, I’m waiting to hear back from a financial advisor so I’ve nowhere to put it just yet. I know that this is incredibly self indulgent but I’m fed up working so many hours and yet not having money. On this day 32 years ago, I started full time work. Yes, a lot was wasted along the way but I should be in a better position than I am now. My total pension provision to date will give me 3500 pa and around 30k lump sum from 2 pots. Looks like I’ll be working until I drop! Unless, my to pay the tax bill premium bonds pay out.

Right, gotta get a move on and try finding saturday’s to do list though I’ve a feeling that there was little done.

As you write, there's no tax disadvantage to upping your payments to you so I'd go with it. You are working long hours and give your all to your clients so I think the " because I'm worth it" maxim applies here.

I've stopped thinking about all the years I've worked and the money I wasted and should have saved that have gone to debt repayments because it's so depressing! :( Coulda, woulda, shoulda! I'm just looking forwards now!

But excellent news on the jeans!:j

I don't know what's a reasonable price for tiles but it seems a lot for a small area. As you're looking for something like your existing ones, would a reclamation yard be a possibility? Or even advertise locally if they were original to the house: when we had to replace a bit of skirting board recently, our neighbour gave us some they had just removed: a perfect match!

  • Unfortunately the house was built in 1906. I’ve gotten a lot from salvage yards over the years but need too many tiles. Thanks for the suggestions. Am I the only one who hates spending money that I can’t see the benefits from? Maybe I’m just in grumpy form.
There have just been too many setbacks recently. Happily nothing too major but I’m worn out from it all and wondering what the point is?

I understand that - before BIL got sick I started to decorate my room, I never finished,I ran out of paint and still now two years later it isn't finished. It is the bit above the book shelves and no one can see it so I leave it! The rest of it looks nice, aside from the mess... I make vague promises to myself I will finish it in the summer.

700 pounds for tiles is expensive to me, we lived in a 1908 house when I was growing up and in those days the Victorian style front was commonplace so tiles were easy to come by when my parents wanted to fix it up the outside. We didn't keep any of the fireplaces! I would definitely want a floor for that much money but I am super cheap - no one ever sees our house. I wonder - it wouldn't be cheaper to replace all the tiles with a new set? Tho, that would make them not original..... and if you can afford it would be good to keep them if that is important to you?

I hate spending money when I can't see benefits too :(

  • Buggy, that price is to replace with a new set but one in the same style! I don’t want to lose the lovely and unusual tiles that go up the sides of the fire but need something that works with them.

Yesterday was a long day. I got home after 9. I have committed to that client for 6 months, I just need to rally the troops to assist with deliverables. The big difference is the level at which I am now operating. On other news, dd is coming home on Saturday and staying until Tuesday. This is good as I need work from her and she needs money. This will get a power point I’m delivering next Tuesday well and truly tarted up.

BS has crept up to high again. This may be due to not eating until half nine and then dinner being toasted fruit soda. After that, I had to go pick my work clothes up from the floor of the wardrobe where it was lying after the rail collapsed yesterday morning.

    Today I am grateful for

You’ve had a bit of a scare with your mum being so poorly and dashing over to tend to her - coupled with being anxious about your future procedure, it’s no wonder you’re wanting to eat and spend....
Hope you enjoyed having your dd at home. I think you’re doing the right thing by giving yourself extra - you work hard and do deserve to be able to live on your income.
