I love the revamping the house idea - you will get more pleasure I'm sure from it being something you have jointly invested in. We too are having a 'spend on the house not the holiday' year, though DH treated me to a London/theatre trip for my birthday (birthday has happened, trip still to come). So far the house has benefitted from new kitchen cupboards and lots of work on the lounge which isn't finished yet but has come a long way.
Hope your cards are okay - when I found some that I'd put in the attic, all the envelopes had glued themselves down!I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

Did anyone feel the earth tremors caused by my spectacular fall from the wagon yesterday? Today my bs was up 5 full points and back into the high range. Still I know where the mistakes were and how to avoid these. Hopefully it’s a lesson learned. Not only did I eat sugar yesterday, I also had a takeaway last night. I have been craving this so thought I’d just get it out of the way and restart today.
On other news, one meeting has been arranged and another reason came to light as to why another needs to happen. A different client is chasing up some work that I have yet to conclude. I will contact them today and buy some time until tomorrow.
I’m feeling a bit flat but I know what I need to do and that I can do it. I just need to get on and do it. Am off to do 5 mins on the cross trainer on the grounds that every little helps.
DH just made a discovery. I forgot to take any morning meds at all yesterday as I had fasting bloods. My reading was still lower than when I started the program.
Today I am grateful for

You are doing an amazing job! Just get back on that wagon, as people are saying, and you'll be back on track in no time.
What are your long-term dietary aims? Not that it's any of my business, but I'm hoping you are mapping out a lifestyle you can live with forever but that isn't too punitive? I know you mentioned portion sizes becoming smaller than they used to be. If it were me there'd be certain things I'd be depriving myself of though, that I'd hope to have from time to time in the longer term, much as you like an occasional takeaway.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. You've shown what a massive change you've made already, you can keep at it!
I agree about having a long term plan though, you want an eating plan you can live with, not one where you will feel deprived all the time."Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do". Eoin McGee1 -
The scores on the doors today are back within normal. I’m quite relieved as there were a few inappropriate snacks yesterday.
Cherry / jwil, I know I need a cunning plan. The only thing I have formulated though is a series of baby steps. There’s a part of me that doesn’t completely trust the change is bs reading to be sustainable yet and that is an obstacle that I will need to overcome. The weight loss is great as it’s making me happier, more confident and I think the energy levels are increasing slightly. This isn’t the main goal. It has to be the blood sugar. Did you know that proportionately there are more diabetes related amputations in NI than in any other region of the UK?
There is however a theory that says diabetes is as much linked to fat as to sugar. Insulin resistance means the body is producing insulin but fat is stopping it being used as it should. In this theory the fat is the fat you consume and the fat that you wear, your body fat.
So, the babysteps include getting my results on Monday then seeking a review appointment with the consultant. This will be to establish a means to further reduce the meds and if that means another whingey 8 weeks, so be it. In the meantime, keep under the recommended daily calorie and sugar intake. I’m nervous about this weekend’s weigh in as although I’m on average below what is needed for weight loss, my calorie intake is significantly up from the preceding 8 weeks. Last weekend I was within 1lb of being in a different stone and if I creep back into obese,I will probably weep. I wanted to weigh in yesterday but need to stick to the once a week routine.
Today some money will be spent as we are nearly out of milk. This change to eating habits has lead to a more focused food spend. Grocery bills are up with more use being made of MnS to find tasty calorie counted things to add to meals. However, there’s a lot less being spent on cash purchases ranging from bakery spends to feeding a chocolate addiction. This week I have the final of three mns vouchers that gave me £4.50 off a £30 spend plus I’ve requested a voucher from sb that is due any day. Fingers crossed that it arrives before the money off voucher expires!
Right, I really need to get motoring. For some reason I woke with a sore head today that makes everything a bit of a struggle. Hopefully vast quantities of water will chase that away and will definitely upmy activity levels as I visit the loo.

Glad your bs is back in the normal range and you are 'back on the wagon'
Interesting re fat and diabetes and insulin resistance. It makes logical sense. Fatty liver disease and diabetes are linked too. When people appear slim, when looked at internally they may have fat around organs and therefore both fatty liver disease and diabetes. It goes back to diabetes being one of the symptoms of insulin resistance and it is that that needs addressing.
You are sounding very motivated and it must be great losing weight too despite it not being the primary aim. Well doneIf you have built castles in the air, your work should not be lost; that is where they should be. Now put the foundations under them

Today was a later reading and it crept up to just in the high range. For some reason later readings tend to be higher which doesn’t make sense. Yesterday the nurse from the surgery left me two very excited voicemails on landline and Moblie. My results were in early and despite having completely cut out one set of meds during the period captured, my levels were within normal. That’s to see that they are close to half my January reading. I’m now on a 6 month review. So, monday’s Job is to call the hospital appointment line and see when they can fit me in for my now overdue 3 month follow up appointment. My gp does not seem inclined to reduce meds so I need to see my consultant to work out an action plan.
This will then inform the cunning plan in terms of both diet and exercise.
On other news, I noticed yesterday that our gutters are blocked, again, at the front of the house. I checked my wardrobe and a suit has damp marks on it in spite of the damp catcher that hangs in the wardrobe. When the man comes to paint windowsills, we will get him to clean the gutter but at the minute it appears more likely that we will need an ark than the window sills and door painted.
I also contacted someone about our garden yesterday. I got his name from an existing client which is good as he’s so busy, he only takes new referred clients. It will be at least two weeks before he can get to me but I’m fine when I know that. I must chase up the builder who was supposed to get back to me this week.

Hi inod - such good news all round on the bs and weight loss! And it's not been weeks of hell for us - that's what we're here for to cheer you along!
It must have been such a great feeling when you got into those jeans!
Re spending on your house this year in lieu of a big holiday, I've decided to join you. As you know I've booked my 'bucket list' holiday but it's not until next February. I've decided that instead of taking a holiday this year I'm going to spend the money on some redecoration of my flat.
Have a good weekend!
