So, we travelled to Dublin in a leisurely manner on Wednesday though there was a bit of a panic issuing emails etc before hand. We discussed it and I left my laptop at home! We stopped off en route at sainsbugs as I needed holdups and they are my budget supplier of choice. First branch I tried didn’t have any and I was worried they had been discontinued. We also bought cheap supplies of Pepsi max. We then went to an outlet en route as I had sported a cheap pair of lovely trousers in the m&s outlet previously but they couldn’t be returned as they were final reduction. They fitted and have been purchased along with a 3 pack of reduced pop sock things inspired by SSG who mentioned how she renewed hers periodically. That gave me a wake up call and I now get rid of bobbly or snagged or strays so that I don’t short change whatever else I’m wearing.
We had hoped to get to another outlet near Dublin but traffic was too heavy so I went to my lovely hotel. It is going through a major refresh and I got one of the redone rooms. It’s so nice. It’s also within walking distance of nice places to eat so we strolled and opted for a Malaysian where I ate both bread and rice. My bs was in range next day.
Conference was a conference. My downfall was that they had jellybeans on the table. Lunch included champ which was amazing. I declined dessert but had a cookie. We travelled back via the outlet we’d missed the day before where I was in search of shoes. I didn’t get what I was after but I got two items from a shop whose clothes I’d never fitted into previously plus the start of 2 baby gifts.
We stopped off for food on the journey then went to Aldi where less than 30 euros were spent on stuff that we will use. It was late when we got home so dog wasn’t collected until this morning. She was so happy! I tested my bloods and they were in range. Looks like this diet is doing what it said and resetting my body’s ability to process sugar. This is the best news ever. I do think mr wii may have a different view but for me, weight loss is an added bonus.
Today I am grateful for

Love the positivity of this post and this thread. I also look back and think, if I'd just saved SOME of the money I had when I was high earning, where would I be? I wish I'd been more frugal but onwards and upwards, lesson learnt!1

Yesterday I went to that client. Turns out that the manager has been doing short days without taking leave for hours he is owed. He also failed to mention that he’d had a row with a staff member who subsequently called in sick for a night shift leaving me juggling staff and relying on good will. I got a few things sorted which was good and left at 6. There are some bits and pieces to progress over the weekend but these are doable.
The pain in my side was really bad last night and now I know that it’s not kidney related, I’m working up to seeing my gp if it doesn’t go away. It’s called the ostrich approach to health care management!
Btw,I was reading yesterday’s post and realised that I had completely failed to mention that the trousers were for dh which was why they could only be purchased when he was with me!
We had thought about some gardening stuff this weekend but it is so cold here today, I think we will stay indoors. I feel an urge to make soup with the cheap veg purchased in Aldi. This weekend I also need to issue some invoices, fun and games.
Today I am grateful for
Needing to issue invoices
A snug home

I think I missed earlier references to a pain in your side (other than That Client)… get the appointment made, missus.
If nothing else, that's sometimes a way to make it disappear without trace.

It’s not entirely that manager’s fault. He was appointed by someone very manipulative who has since moved on and the role has grown but his capacity hasn’t. He’s very committed just doesn’t get what the job needs. Added into the mix is the lack of proper strategic planning and no formal appraisal. Today I will be doing some work for them and for two other clients. I will also be doing 3 invoices and my equivalent of period 13 adjustments where I am rounding up all unclaimed expenses incurred pre 05 April and reimbursing myself. I’m hopeful that when I finally do my tax return, there will be a little bit left over from money set aside for the tax bill.
Today I took my bs reading and it had climbed. This was done later than usual which tends to be a higher reading. It was still within range so, from today, I am completely ceasing the drug that has been progressively reduced from 160mg per day to 40mg. I have blood test in 10 days time so there will be medical monitoring through that. Tomorrow I am also going to call for a hospital appointment as I want to start attacking the next diabetic drug.
Today I had my weekly conversation with mr wii. He said I’ve dropped 2 lbs but the number’s down by 3 so that’s what I will record in my signature. Also, for the first time in so longer, my bmi has dropped from obese. I did a little victory jig.
The pain in my side / back has eased significantly. I wasn’t totally avoiding the dr. It was in my kidney region and they needed a 2 week gap before retesting from last results and then I was waiting for the results so I didn’t see that they could do anything else. The pain has also shifted and now feels like an ibs flare up so I have taken one of the tablets that addresses this and am hopeful that things have sorted themselves out. If they haven’t, I will go to the doctor pre Easter.
In other news, I got some clearing out underway. I have removed all the magazines from under the chaise in my home office and these have been put in a box to be read or are in the recycling. I also sorted out the magazine rackin the living room. Without being conscious of doing so, I applied the kondo approach of clearing by category. Clearly I absorbed more of her teaching than I realised. I should revisit those books.
Today I need to find a cost effective way for the Easter Bunny to visit the offspring, neither of whom will be home for Easter but both of whom want their eggs! I also need to get a box of Creme Eggs from the cash and carry for the staff in that client. I also want to get the laundry cleared up early and if that happens, I will do a blitz on the ironing thanks to my close to 30 year old elnapress.
Today I am grateful for
