That post summarises the naivity of the liberal left. Never on the side of common sense and the Human rights of the majority.
I don't give a stuff about the rights of terrorists, and I'd make life hell for anyone showing the slightest signs of going down that path.
I guarantee the likes of Farron and James O'Brien will wheel out the usual "we must not water down our Human rights, otherwise the terrorists will have won". So predictable
Any foreigner convicted of terrorist attacks should be immediately deported,if they bleat that they would not be safe then we should point out that we would not be safe with them in the country. If they are British then they should be made to spend a lifetime in jail, but they should be forced to work for that entire lifetime in the most demeaning job available.
As far as I am concerned terrorists immediately lose the right to any so called "human rights", those rights should apply only to those who do not commit atrocities like this. What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0 -

If you are talking about the person I think you are, that person was an illegal immigrant who ran when he saw the police, including jumping barriers. And he was wearing a rucksack. What were the police supposed to think? Were they supposed to allow someone obviously worried when they saw the police to continue on when there was the risk he wanted to kill as many people as he could? What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0 -

You don't get much more simplistic and populist than "we must live within our means as if our economy was a family budget" or "we must kill more of them until they stop. Its the only way".
Unfortunately neither of those have been shown to work over many years now and many serious, non-simplistic, analysts - financial and security - can and have been explaining why they won't from the very start.
But they're simple and (we're told) they're "common sense" so they become popular and and people end up voting for those simple, popular, policies.
Explain why socialist runFrance has had massive unemployment for years, many talented French left France and growth has been poor for some time?
Explain Scotlands current poor growth compared to England's, given you belief in left wing solutions.
Why has corporation tax collected gone up as corporation tax rates have fallen?
The Corbyn con artist told us many times to look to the fine example Venezuela was setting. Today it has days long flour queues, 400% inflation and people have eaten the animals in Caracas zoo
Don't cite Scandinavia. It is run largely by conservative politicians and it does not have the endemic benefits street type culture we have that causes so many kids to grow up thinking it's ok to be irresponsible0 -
points of view....
robin hood was a terrorist in his day, guy fawkes also. we celebrate those today in different ways.
Nelson Mandela was a terrorist in his own country, yet the rest of the world viewed him as hero and a freedom fighter.
you CANNOT create a law where terrorists have no human rights. It may work in the current state, but in the past and no doubt, in the future it would be horrendous.0 -
Scotlands growth rate is hindered by the view to keep the countryside exactly as it looks.
Which equates to two major industries being severely hindered.
1) house builders
2) mining industry0 -
I have asked this question before, although not in this particular thread.
Can anyone name any country in the world where a hard left socialist economy is currently working?
Because I can't think of one.0 -

can anyone tell me why the conservative goverenment who capped public sector works to a 1% rise therefore with inflation a fall in wages, consistently increased wages for mp's.

It is not the government that sets MP salaries., it has been done by an independent body since 2011.
And it was labour in power up to 2010, and a coalition between 2010 and 2015.
So no, it was not the Conservative government that instigated those rises. What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0 -

2) mining industryThe Scottish Chambers of Commerce business group called on the government in Edinburgh to rethink its refusal to match UK income tax cuts for higher earners and its higher tax rates for medium and large businesses than in England. “It is time for the Scottish government to abandon this high tax agenda before it is too late as these policies risk driving investment out of Scotland,” said Liz Cameron, chambers of commerce chief executive. The SNP has in the past blamed economic underperformance on failings in policy set by Westminster. But increased devolution of powers to the parliament at Holyrood and its push for independence will add to pressure on the governing party to show how it could turn round the Scottish economy.
