its funny when you see the people getting into big cars at Aldi or Poundland Car Parks, kinda defeats the object.

Why? Maybe they don't give a toss about the brand of beans they eat and would prefer to spend the money saved on a flash car.

People buy expensive cars because they are seen with them a lot. The owner can wear their favourite comfy jeans since it's the car that's confirming their social status to the public.

The premium car is the new top hat. I think the Victoran rule was, the taller and shinier the hat, the richer you were supposed to be. I quite like those chancer characters that turn up in Dickens films, top hat alright but every other sign that the guy's an unreliable wide boy!

Funny thing is, top hats were a bit useless, don't really keep much rain off and you've got to endlessly duck low through doorways.

Why does it look funny as it just shows how astute they are when buying the weekly/monthly shop as it actually sounds like you have a smell under your nose as you wouldn't dare be seen in one of those.

I can imagine people like you coming out of M&S with your nose high in the air thinking look at me everyone how good am I.:rotfl::rotfl:

A few years ago, when I'd been made redundant, I worked at Lidl for a while. There were 2 regular customers who "stood out", so to speak - one drove a brand new Range Rover, the other drove a Bentley. I don't know for sure, but I assumed that they saved money on their weekly shop ( and probably eslewhere as well ), and that's how they managed to afford such expensive cars. Either that, or they were quite well-off anyway but just didn't see the point of paying more than necessary for things like baked beans and toilet paper ;) Whatever, they were certainly among the more pleasant and polite section of the clientele, and not at all "stuck-up".

I spent a lot of money on my house but not a lot on my cars. I remember walking round my house thinking
Detached - We can make as much noise as we want
Large drive for loads of cars
    Each child large bedroom
Plenty of bathrooms - no waiting for others
Multiple lounging areas if you don't like what's on TV move to another.
The house improved my standard of living.
If we go to a prestige car dealers I don't have the same feeling. There's no advantage I can see.
Later on I realised the more you spend on property the more you gain in the long term. The more you spend on cars the more you lose.

Or when your at the petrol station putting £70 worth of fuel into your daily barge and some guy rolls up in a £80'000 car, putting only the bare minimum fuel into it (about £3 at most places).... Says a lot really.

Probably a dealer as they don't leave cars on the forecourt with the tank full.

I run my car down to a couple of gallons left before filling it up. It's a Porsche. I can afford to run it. I bought it for me to drive, not for other people to look at. Why would I care what other people think about my choice of vehicle? I'm not vain or vapid. If I cared about impressions, I'd wash it once in a while :p

Not really. I sometimes shop at Aldi because I go past on my way home so it's convenient. Personally I don't see anything with going there and actually some things they sell are quite good.

    On multiple occasions.... Why?

You don't half post some rubbish. It's gone from the minimum amount of £3 to £20 now.

Well I fill up every 2-3 weeks (usually when at 1/8 - 1/4 tank) , so average per month I tend to spend a lot more time at the pump versus queuing for said pump. I see a lot of cars come and go, usually £10-£20 worth of fuel, but generally the more extravagant the car, the less fuel they put in, AND generally speaking if said car is more than a year or so old, it'll be wearing cheap/nasty tyres too.

We have an old saying here in the Midlands, "kippers and curtains", which roughly means they're hiding the fact they can't afford to eat, behind fancy curtains.

i had a real heavy car a 1.4 , had to get rid and now a 1.1 Hyundai really, ..its like driving a motor bike around town really nippy on the start.. and the petrol really cheap, I thought the petrol gauge was broke when i first got it.
Only downside is on the motorway, I just put some sound on and chug away ..put still pretty zippy where i need it.
Btw plus its all paid for.

    20 pound= 100 miles
Doesn't look very fuel efficient for such a light small engined car. 20 pounds = 100 miles is about 26 mpg.
I nearly get the same mpg but I drive a big automatic car, 2.4 litre engine with the climate control and heated leather seats!

I've normally driven "flash" cars, because they are fun, and have usually been remarkably cheap (no-one seems to want a big petrol car these days). Plus it's amazingly handy to have a car that stands out in a car park.
Yes, and you've actually seen that haven't you.

To be fair I usually see it, as I also go in at about 1/8th of a tank and put in £50+ (because I'd rather visit as infrequently as possible), the meter before me is normally for a round £5/10, and there's usually cars that arrive after me leaving first.
