Why do people buy expensive cars?

I am a high earner. I have always shunned prestige vehicles. I estimate that I will have at least 5 years of extra retirement because of that choice. It's up to people to decide for themselves how they live their lives though. If people like working and like a certain badge on their car that's up to them.0

An eminently sensible decision. I would rather pay off my mortgage than look like Bertie Big Borrocks to impress others. Although I no longer have a mortgage but have had a lot of cheap cars....Je suis sabot...0

its funny when you see the people getting into big cars at Aldi or Poundland Car Parks, kinda defeats the object.“Life isn't about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself.”

Or when your at the petrol station putting £70 worth of fuel into your daily barge and some guy rolls up in a £80'000 car, putting only the bare minimum fuel into it (about £3 at most places).... Says a lot really.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

Yes, and you've actually seen that haven't you.0 -

I've been driving for about 12 years now but never once have i looked to see how much fuel other people are putting in their cars when i'm filling mines. All your base are belong to us.0

When younger i was running around in Rover V8's, had Range Rovers and MGs and all sorts of stuff. The only time i ever though about the fuel consumption was when i have to fill the Range Rover twice from the midlands to Cornwall.
But its an eco green party friendly car, well it must be because the tax is free and insurance is cheap
Not seen a really expensive car put £3 in but i have seen younger drivers with tarted up dustbins put a small amount in then exit the petrol station with the wheels spinning and foot welded to the floor. Maybe they had a leak and had to get home before it all drained out again?
The only real time i look at the other cars is if its something special or unusual. Mostly older rare stuff. Not really bothered how much fuel they are putting in as long as its not leaking into my shoes.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

Well I fill up every 2-3 weeks (usually when at 1/8 - 1/4 tank) , so average per month I tend to spend a lot more time at the pump versus queuing for said pump. I see a lot of cars come and go, usually £10-£20 worth of fuel, but generally the more extravagant the car, the less fuel they put in, AND generally speaking if said car is more than a year or so old, it'll be wearing cheap/nasty tyres too.
We have an old saying here in the Midlands, "kippers and curtains", which roughly means they're hiding the fact they can't afford to eat, behind fancy curtains.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”
