Why do people buy expensive cars?

I have 3 disabilities and drive a car leased from Motability, for which I am very grateful. I could just use the whole amount of payments and buy an 'ordinary' car, but I also need an automatic gearbox. And a high-seated cabin. And comfort. And a ride that soaks up most of the bumps which can affect my shattered spine. So I save enough aside for 3 years, in order to provide a car that meets all these essential requirements. Essential, that is, to my health and consequently safer driving. If I had not worked and saved so hard during my working life, I might now be in a position to take advantage of other Benefits and Grants, in order to get the car with requirements that I need, for free.
I have just taken such a car and it is everything my OH and I need to meet the above criteria. Saving for it meant doing without certain little luxuries and watching the pennies. Already I have had envious remarks about the shiny vehicle parked outside my door, from people like yourself, who make uninformed comments without considering the reasons for people possessing something they have worked and saved for.
I am sorry to say that your post just appears to be rank jealousy. Why not appreciate what you have, without agonising over whatever someone else has?I think this job really needs
a much bigger hammer.

On hoof hearted's point, in my council estate there are BMW's and Mercedes from people who rent, it is their choice but i think its financially insane when they could otherwise save up a mortgage deposit to begin to get themselves out of the mire. People at work too are the same, which is their choice, but i care about their financial health and mental well-being of they are out to impress
And if someone does have the money i suppose the excess does need to be wasted so it re-enters the economy, ie holidays, posh nosh, handbags, etcThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

So you think people that rent are insane when there driving around in BMWs and Mercedes what a strange comment to post, but having said that this really is a weird thread you've started and the only thing I would advise is that you need to talk to a professional about your state of mind.:)0 -

i had a real heavy car a 1.4 , had to get rid and now a 1.1 Hyundai really, ..its like driving a motor bike around town really nippy on the start.. and the petrol really cheap, I thought the petrol gauge was broke when i first got it.
Only downside is on the motorway, I just put some sound on and chug away ..put still pretty zippy where i need it.
Btw plus its all paid for.

What does that (boldened statement) mean, exactly? What is it that drives you to judge other people and the way they conduct their lives?I think this job really needs
a much bigger hammer.

You're an exceedingly judgemental person aren't you? Why do you consider that somebody living on a council estate (if there is such a thing since the advent of RTB) is in the mire?0
