Would something active be good for you? Being outdoors using up some energy and not necessarily having to deal with people all the time?
You have animal care skills so I wonder if there is a petting farm or even a farm / garden centre that places people with disabilities.
Maybe what you need is the help to get a foot in the door? Once you are in I'm sure you have excellent skills to offer. Try contacting your council and ask if they have a team that can assist you. Could be the learning disability team or similar. See what's in your area. Where I live we have 'back2base' check out what they do on the web then search for similar where you are.0 -
Yeah i have animal care skills but the thing is i don't actually like animals. I much prefer the travel & tourism course i am doing which is why i am now getting distinctions and Merits.
I only got on the travel & tourism course because i did the animal care course and i started out in Entry 3 skills for working life.
I mean i hate moths, spiders and when i did work experience in a pet shop i didn't like cleaning out the animals as i always got bitten lol.0 -

Sam has your counsellor ever worked on social stories with you, or has anyone else? I've used them with ASD kids and, although they're a lot younger than you, I'm sure there must be some more suitable to your situation that could help you prepare.
The Autism Speaks website has some useful information on how to prepare for a job interview. When I was looking for my first job I sent my CV everywhere; maybe 50 places. I only ever had 3 replies and 2 were outright "no". Take a stroll and look for any places that have ads in the window, lots of smaller firms such as caf!s do that.0 -

The OP has difficulty in controlling his emotions at times, and due to his autism finds reading other people and social situations difficult. Care work would be difficult for him and unfair on the people he would be looking after, given the information he has given so far. Think about it, before you post.
Sam m, when people say you need more experience and suggest voluntary work, you should take that seriously. They are telling you that regardless of your financial situation, you need more skills or experience to get the job.
Voluntary work isn't just charity shops etc. My nephew volunteers on a steam railway. He is having fun but also learning team work and customer skills. All jobs have aspects that are hard, or boring, or sometimes unpleasant. That's all part of it.
What do you think your strengths are? Are there any specialist supported employment agencies round your way that could help? All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -

The thing is i do voluntary work at my local castle and i do all sorts of things such as little picking, helping set up for parties, helping out selling tickets and of the game stalls at the events they have, helping out in the shop.
I enjoy that, i like serving customers and chatting to them about the local area, how their day has been.0 -
So you might as well get paid for that, because people get paid for less, don't let them exploit you. I always thought the volunteers where i work are doing work that ought to be paid... I was actually told by some of the people there that i am so much better then some of the other people that have volunteered there before due to my personality but the trouble is it can't be a proper paid job as its just run by volunteers0

Sam M have you asked the National Autistic Society to help you too?
From this thread you have a lot of work to do, getting in your applications in from all the suggestions.
You are good with the computer so admin could be a possibility too.
I'm feeling excited for you as you seem so determined.
Good luck with it you deserve it. The world is your oyster.0
