My emergency savings have been depleted recently as I’ve been spending on annual bills (to save money on monthly DDs) and also I’ve got a few things sorted for the house that I’ve wanted to do. I want to get these back up to £2,000 as a priority.

My debt savings are savings I’m making towards F&F offers on the rest of my debts. My SOA is very tight (mainly due to childcare costs) and I’m making token payments to my debts. Any extra money from surveys/decluttering goes towards the savings. Early next year little miss should get her ‘free’ nursery hours so I’ll have extra money to clear the debts with.

I need a ‘new’ car as mine (17 years old) is now starting to get to the stage where it’s always got something wrong and it’s becoming unreliable and a money pit. I want to save £3,000 towards a new car as I need something fairly reliable for work.

Sorry your old diary was lost, but good luck with the new one.

ETA: Re the lost lists, try contacting a mod, they may be able to copy it and send it to you. otherwise try google cache. I don't know how to do it but understand it is possible.

Thank you :) . Someone has told me how to try and get it back on Google cache as I could only see the last few posts before, so I'm going to give that a go.

    Found this:

    My end of year summary:

When I started this diary in March, my debt total was £34,229. A couple of complaints later and a little luck with a large debt write-off of almost £7k, my debt total is now £21,296 meaning I have reduced my debt by £12,933 this year

I have also decluttered over 3000 items from my house, which although still a clutter fest, is finally starting to look better.

I managed to earn over £500 from surveys and cashback etc this year.

This time last year my maternity leave was about to come to an end and DH was out of work. He is back in permanent employment and our finances are looking better. I had just started my DMP and had no savings. Now I have an emergency fund.

What a huge turnaround this has been :T:T

  • Oh no what a shame you can't find your 2017 declutter totals. I wish I had found your earlier diary as you seem to have had the same sort of luck with regards to debts that I have had. So it would have been nice to read someone else's experiences.

I have had just over £7100 of my debt total not written off but the bank has made a commercial decision not to chase it anymore. Therefore I can make voluntary payments if I wish to but in theory I just have to wait the six years until this debt drops off my record. In addition another one of my debts for just under £5000 seems to have disappeared. It no longer shows on any of the three credit agencies, I have had no reply to a letter to them asking them to confirm the balance owed and I haven't been chased about this debt for ages. I am therefore putting it to one side and will forget about it unless I hear anything.

In addition I had a large £1811 payout of Plevin PPI payment which came off my largest debt. I have submitted a few more claims now and am just waiting to hear but they will nowhere near be as big as that one.

I am subscribing and hopefully I can match your declutter totals as well as I have far too much stuff in my house!!

Thanks for popping in Mumoffourkids :) I'm really frustrated about everything I've lost, I know everyone who lost their diary is as well :(

I was so amazed when they wrote off my debt. It was went I went self managed, and I sent of my I&E to all of my creditors. It (truthfully) shows that there is no spare cash at the moment and so they apparently made the decision that they didn't want the £1 a month I was offering and they'd just write it off. :T :T

That's brilliant news that your bank is not chasing the debt, and fingers crossed the second one stays gone as well :T Good luck on the ppi claims, every little helps :)

Good luck with the decluttering. It has been the bane of my life for years now, but equally has given me some much needed funds to keep going so it's a double edged sword. We can see a difference in the house now, but there's a long way to go.
