Well ok, but it doesn't make sense to me.

The problem is a lot of things don't make sense to you because you are viewing the world through a Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm filter.

Lots of people get paid a lot of money to sit around waiting for something to happen. Within reason their employers don't care what they are doing with that time, posting on internet forums could be an example of something which helps while the hours away. Some very well paid people even get paid to sleep.

Why don't you spend a couple of hours of your time researching what other people do for work and how modern flexible working practices have transformed the whole concept of working for a living.

You don't get out very much do you. The only way to make your fantasy a reality is to get a job and work for it but you'll need a good job. You could also win the lottery. Do you buy a lot of scratch cards?

Now I'm expected to believe that someone has 8 cards but no idea of the credit limits. Well, ok. This thread gets better and better.

    Yes, you can believe it.

For one, I use them for spending, and pay them off each month. as i never carry a balance, I dont need to know the limit. It is unimportant to me. i could look it up, if i could be bothered.

2, they raise the limits quite a lot, the one that is over 10K started out at 3K many years ago.

Of course, you can choose to believe nothing here, and go back under your bridge.

A long time ago my job involved supervising the water jetting and cctv survey of the sewer system in an area where many celebrities and other important people lived*. Without putting too fine a point on it, some of what I saw probably came direct from a celebrity or two. Does that count as a celebrity story? :)

If MSE had been around at the time then we could well have been sitting in the van posting on here rather than watching the rather boring video feed. The highlight of which was seeing the occasional startled rat. In the case of some forum members here, the contents of their posts and the contents of the sewers would have been indistinguishable. ;)

*This is genuinely true by the way.

December 31st 1999, I was paid £150 per hour to sleep. The catch was, I had to be sober and available to work if needed, until 8am on January 1st.

In the end, there was no need for me to work. I don't remember if I slept well or badly. But by January 2nd I was 2 grand richer.

The internet was not a big thing then, otherwise I probably would have been killing time on a site like this.

And smed would have been calling you a fantasist because every real IT person in the world should be desperately firefighting Y2K issues and wouldn't have time to post on here. ;)

I hadn't appreciated how widely-read this thread has become but see that Barack Obama is quoted as saying in his speech in Edinburgh last night that
too many people base facts on their opinions, rather than basing their opinions on facts
