can anyone please advise how to do either of these things please.

    A. Go back to the original forum layout when you stupidly accepted the new one some time ago.
    B. Ignore users (with or without a split personality disorder) when using the new forum layout.

Similarly from your profile area where you set your options, you should be able to find the Manage Forum Version option.

On the old version it's towards the bottom of the list of settings/options down the left side, but a direct link is here

    http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/profile.php?do=manageversion

However it might be worth someone reposting this in case you've already followed JohnRo's link to "ignore" certain users... :)

At the top of the page, click on the hyperlink 'Private Messages (PM)'.

On the right hand side of the message page is a long list of options.

Scroll all the way to the bottom..... Forum Version.

Click it and change to 'Old Version'

Getting old now. Quite frankly I don't really care if anyone thinks I'm really someone else or vice versa.

A common thread running through most of my posts going back to my very first posts on MSE is evidence and common sense. The evidence of the times of posts supports that those people who commonly post at all times of the day (and night in addition in some cases) are most definitely not going to work. Now that is not necessarily bad but those living in their own fantasy worlds need to recognise that fact and stop misleading people. And it is a fact supported by the evidence.

Thanks for the help on the ignore users setting all of you - I had only ever seen instructions on how to do it in the old forum settings. That works.

However changing the forum version makes no difference. I've tried this numerous times since I initially accepted the new version, without success. I guess I'll just have to continue putting up with the new one - at least I can weed out some of the drivel now.

The 'evidence' to which you refer, is merely evidence of what time of day a person hit "save" on a particular post, and not of where they were when posting it, or what they were doing before, during, or after it, or how they structure their personal affairs and commitments.

Anything else developed from that primary evidence is your own supposition borne of a lack of knowledge of what people actually do with their lives overlaid with your personal prejudices.

The idea that there is 'evidence' of someone 'most definitely not going to work' is bonkers. It simply does not exist. All that exists on this site is a record of the time of day that someone typed or pasted text into a dialog box on a web browser using a device that had an internet connection.

Your erroneous conclusion demonstrates that you are unable to follow logical steps and infer something fact-based from the facts presented. You seem to be unable to form a conclusion that is 'evidenced' by the facts gathered even though you say it is, because you have made a logical mis-step.

That lack of demonstrable cognitive ability is something that might or might not be borne from a diminished mental capacity relative to the average UK person. However, I could not say 'Anthorn is mentally !!!!!! and that is a fact supported by the evidence.'

Anthorn may not be mentally !!!!!! at all, so it can't be presented as a 'fact'. If Anthorn did turn out to be mildly !!!!!!, it would not be inconsistent with the observation that he has poor deductive reasoning, but that does not make it a fact that he is mentally !!!!!!, because he might not be. He might just be an argumentative so-and-so who is deliberately drawing the wrong conclusions to things to have some fun on the internet and see where it takes him.

Simple reasoning which anyone can view and then answer the question, "If someone is posting at all hours of the day and night are they at work?"

The fact that I didn't start this thread and I am posting in this thread on-topic appears to have escaped the attention of some people.

    Crikey, who actually cares!

Everyone should care: These are the people who are appearing as experts in the field of finance or at least knowledgeable enough to advise others on finance and even knowledgeable enough to criticise the financial decisions of others to the point of ridicule and personal attack. The truth could be far different and probably is.

I suppose it depends on whether anyone regards their posts as authoritative or merely entertainment which goes in one ear and immediately out the other ear.

There was a time when people on MSE laughably claimed to have 30-odd credit cards with a combined credit limit approaching a quarter of a million pounds. Those claims met with incredulous replies and are now rare on MSE.

This is the next frontier on MSE Forums.

If you doubt the integrity of posters - why do you actually use this forum? Makes no sense to me.

    To use myself as an example and not drag other forum members into it ; I guess users can read my six thousand posts made over twelve years and preserved on this site, and judge for themselves whether I'm;

    a) knowledgeable 'enough' in the field of finance to be able to usefully contribute to discussion and help others;

    - or instead as you surmise:

    b) perhaps just an 8-year old girl borrowing a computer

    c) an unemployed layabout who dreams of having personal finance of his own

I did get "thanked" in over 70% of the 6300 posts which is a relatively high ratio for those who don't spend any significant time in the "debate the economy", "gossip" or "pub" -type boards or the mutual support groups such as DFW/MFW. Though some of them were cheap, like the ones in this thread.

Seems high. I have about £75k limit across six cards /five providers. With a few overdraft facilities and a personal loan on top, the credit report shows over six figures. A few more tens of thousands wouldn't be unheard of (I haven't tried) so I'm sure there are couples with £200-250k between them, without needing as many as 30 accounts. Many banks are still less free with credit than they were pre- credit crunch, so it would have been relatively even easier a decade ago on the same salary.

£200-300k with 30 accounts for one person would really be going some and the fact that it needs as many as 30 accounts implies some would be quite low limits, which might imply the banks did not think the person was good for it which might imply they wouldn't want to participate in an accident waiting to happen. So there were probably some porky pies from fantasist forum members just like there are all the time on the Motoring board about what car they are buying next. But generally on the savings/investments board you don't get massive amounts of obvious trolling apart from certain posters.
This is the next frontier on MSE Forums.
I guess being retired you have plenty of time for old movies about the Wild West or re-runs of Star Trek

I have at least 8 cards, migth be more. I dotn use them all.

I have no idea on my credit limit, but know at least one is over 10K

Why do I have so many? Because I didnt get rid of old ones always when i got a new one (have gotten rid of at least 3).

I got new ones for cashback, for points/free stuff like free food and drink, free flights, amazon vouchers etc.

I have old ones that give me nothing so I dont tend to use them. But i havent gotten rid of them.

And what is all the crap with working? some people are retired, and some people work part time, and some are financially independent so dont have to work any more.

Some work for themselves so can spend as long as they like posting here.

Bowlheads posts are very helpful to many. They are helpful to me when I have the time to read them through lol. They are long, and detailed.
