Do people look like their pics on internet dating?

I've been on Internet dating sites for years and found a lot of men use pictures that are old or more flattering.
I've got some slightly older photos on mine and I uploaded one this morning taken last night.
I remember once getting to a station to meet a guy early and instead of waiting in the proposed spot, I waited nearby where I could see him arrive. He'd warned me what he was going to wear and that he would have a red rose. When he turned up be was either 10 years older (or somehow aged a lot for a 25 year old!) and was a good 5 stone heavier than his pictures. Ended up skipping meeting him and had a good day in London alone.
I've got photos showing the whole of me and some of me and mates but it is rare I get messages. I use to use sites like PoF but found I'd get messages like 'you're no way a biker, must be an exs or mates bike' Or 'oo I'd love to date a goth you must be kinky!'
On the height thing, I don't limit my profile to say men my height or taller, but I do have a preference for men taller than me. I wear what most people will class as chunky goth boots, add that to being 5''9 and if I'm dating someone whose a lot shorter I'd end up with bad neck ache!0 -
I remember going to a works xmas do about 5 years ago. One of my co workers bought a friend along who only went on uniform dating. Apparently she had a crave for men in the ambulance service. She said it took her over six months to finally meet one. They had to be over 6 foot and dark haired. Some people have strange fantasies for sure. And I'm guessing 9 out of 10 pics are false on these sites.0

I'm six four, mid fifties and, apparently, a freak of nature. It's news to me.I need to think of something new here...0 -
My dad is 6'4 (mid 50s) and my OH is 6'2, both are a it older than 25.
I do seem to remember reading that we are getting taller, so I guess that would explain why there are more taller, younger people but it's not right to say that the majority of older men are 5'10 or shorter.
Re online dating pictures; I don't know, never having used any of the sites. But any picture I've ever put online has been taken at the time. I can understand wanting to present your best side... but I would always worry that once they'd met, they'd be expecting me to look like that all the time0 -
Angry bear.
I did message him saying you could have been truthful with everything as if you were we probably would have had a nice day out.
To me, it wasn't the fact he was different from pictures etc it was more the fact he lied to me, probably as he thought I wouldn't meet up otherwise. If someone is lying online about looks, what else are they lying about?0 -

Seems reasonable to me.
I once went to meet someone who had a user name ending 40s which fitted the age on her profile (43). The photos I'd seen showed an attractive 40 something female. When a woman in her mid 60s (who looked vaguely like my date) asked if I was me I said "Oh couldn't she make it". "Who" she said looking puzzled.
"Your daughter"
Funnily enough the date didn't last long. I think the '40s' in her profile name referred to the decade she was born in.0 -
I have a few online dating profiles but due to autism making it hard to sell myself I rarely if ever do much about online dating.
I did try a few times 9 years ago but tended to notice, if I use pictures of me on my "good side" i.e not airbrushed or anything, recent it just literally would be good lighting when I met someone they said I looked nothing like my picture, use a more normal looking one not quite my bad side and never get responses or told I am not good looking enough etc.
So it was a case of use best case scenario for pics to get somewhere or normal ones that people ignored.
Did speak to one lovely girl online but she kept cancelling our meet ups so never got to meet her as she seemed over anxious and not to sound negative but a lot of baggage.
I am a geeky guy who is a little scruffy even whe I brush hair and wear smart clothes and has bad mannerisms due to the autistic side of me imagine me walking up to you for a date.
It doesn't help that I have anxiety chicken and egg style where I am anxious that I don't speak to a lady but anxious if I do.0
