    I never had any problems with men looking wildly different from their profile photos but I did meet a few men who were shorter than the height they claimed they were.

    I met my partner on a dating website and he still makes fun of me because one of the first few things I asked him when we were messaging was if he still had his beard.

    Back in the 90's I was in contact with a lady via a website. Her profile photo showed her sitting on a car bonnet which I recognised as an Austin Allegro. There was a Union Jack in the background and I put 2 and 2 together and dated the photo as being taken during the 1977 Silver Jubilee. She confirmed that was the case...

    Have to admit, I have met a number of people who I only saw on their twitter and facebook pics, and have been shocked at how different they look. They look waaaaaay fatter, and older.

    Regarding the height of men; I would not class 5' 6"" to 5' 9" as small; that is average I would say...

    The average height of a British male is 5 ft 9 inches. That is within the parameters I set. Moreover, as 5 ft 9 inches is an 'average,' that means anything from 5 ft 7 to 5 ft 11. Again, within the parameters I set.

    Where do YOU live? The Netherlands or Norway, I am guessing, where the average height of men is 6 feet tall!

    I assume that as you think 5 ft 6 inches to 5 ft 9 inches is small. :D My other half is 5 ft 10 inches, and towers above many men we know.

    That said, younger men now (under 25,) all seem to be taller than him. Maybe it's a generational thing. :)

    Also, the OP said he is 5 ft 9 inches tall, which is a perfectly decent height imo. Maybe all the women on the hunt for a man are 6 feet tall!

    No. That's not what I said. And I am baffled as to how you got that from my post!

    5 ft 6 inches tall to 5 ft 9 inches tall is fairly average for most men (over the age of 25.) It is not BELOW average, and I never said it was.

    I said clearly that younger men (like under 25) are often taller, but most men over that age are not usually taller than 5 ft 6 inches- 5 ft 9 inches.

    Well you did say:
    The average height of a British male is 5 ft 9 inches

    So by definition somebody who is below that height is below average height.

    Is it just me - I love it when people say they would NEVER do internet dating and then confirm they HAVE a partner. Makes me laugh.

    I'm six four, mid fifties and, apparently, a freak of nature. It's news to me.
