Do people look like their pics on internet dating?

  • A lot of women use filters, lots of make up, dodgy angle pics, black and white pics, face pics but hiding the body, old pics, group pics with friends, pretty friend at the front while their hiding in the background.

Half probably look like their pictures, the other half don't!

I definitely pass on those with those quotes but clearly they are bitter about people not looking like they do in their pics. So I wondered how common it was as I don't really know many people who do internet dating.

I do have a "beware the head shot only" policy.

    Might be a chubster.

Then I remember so am I!
  • I'm not much of a picture person, I had to use the few recent pictures I had of myself.

I sort of expect girls to put on their better pictures but filters and photo shop are basically fake.

I can't speak for others, but I find it about 70% that don't resemble their profile pictures.
Oddly also I find a good few end up on my 'people you may know' on facebook, without exchanging any details.

The filter apps available in the last 6 months have been a game changer.

Half the facebook pics I see now I look at and think it doesnt look anything like the person I know and sit next to each day in the office.

I met my now husband online and neither of us had photos on there. I remember one guy got really funny with me when I said I wasn't going to put a photo up!
For me I wanted to know about the person without getting caught up in what they looked like. I was looking for a serious relationship and was more concerned about other aspects than looks. I hear that many photos are not a true representation anyway. Someone might look better in real life or look pretty / handsome and be a complete idiot so I don't think a photo is that relevant. If someone picks me for my looks, what's going to happen when I'm old and wrinkly and put on a few pounds? I'd be worried they would be wanting to upgrade me!

Playing devils advocate a bit, I think desire has to be there. You need to be attracted to that person, physically as well as personality-wise.

This is just the new version of the old "small ads" tricks.

    You know the ones...

"GOSH"...the sense of humour of a 5 year old

    "Bubbly"...obese

    "Bubbly and outgoing"...morbidly obese

    "Fun-loving party girl"...alcoholic

    "Mature"...decrepit

    "Experienced"....bitter divorcee

    "Petite"...midget

    And so on.

I'm soooo glad I've never had to use an internet dating site. I'm hideous enough in real life ("petite, mature, blonde, WLTM 90+ yr old millionaire with heart disease and a pub") but at least in my day, we had the benefit of dark, dingy and smoky pubs/clubs, with plenty of alcohol to numb the senses! :rotfl:

Go to a local speed dating event. You get to meet people and you have two minutes to decide if you like them. If you've got single friends it is a good night out to go together
