I've dated online and the guys I've met have looked like their photos.

A lot of women use filters, lots of make up, dodgy angle pics, black and white pics, face pics but hiding the body, old pics, group pics with friends, pretty friend at the front while their hiding in the background.

Half probably look like their pictures, the other half don't!

I cant see the point in that to be honest. Whats the point of hiding behind a filter or photoshopping? A lot of kids do it and I dont understand why. I dont use dating sites, I dont need to but my Facebook is flooded with pictures of young women (well younger than me) that been filtered to an inch of their lives! They are beautiful as they are and as far as dating. Why give a false look of themselves? The truth will out!

I look at pictures of my face that I took 12 months ago, my face has aged, I can no longer wear the bright colours I love to wear, my skin isn't so good. To be expected really of a woman in her 50s. The temptation is to add a touch here and filter a bit there to keep the age at bay but I know i'm fooling no one who is going to see me in real life. A bit of soft focus I lean to at times but again, a profile pic I put on Facebook bought a very dear childhood friend tell me that the picture looked out of focus.

Angled pictures? Does anyone want to see in detail a flabby chin or bags under the eyes? Yes they are there but if youve got a 'best side' why not use it? I choose not to reveal my body online, heck I mislead no one by saying ive got a good figure, i'd just rather not promote my flaws.

  • I have a photo from 12 months ago. I'm quite unphotogenic and hate having my photo taken. It's normal and looks like me because -in agreement with you I don't see the point of false advertising.
It's more laziness that It's not morerecent.

I agree on the group shots but people forget if you are single you don't have many people to take a photo just of you unless you specifically ask them. So you end of being in lots of group shots and it's tempting to use them because you look happy (and also demonstrates you have friends) so implies normality.

Also I just wanted to say as a side thing that whenever anyone starts a thread on internet dating you always get people sidetracking it and saying helpful things like-
Single people should get off the internet and meet people in real life
    Or
Just find a hobby and do something you love and you will meet people
    Or
join a club and meet men in real life
    Or
    Something similar.

Most people I know meet people all the time in real life, we have full and busy lives. Internet dating does't mean you spend the whole time on the internet, it just means you haven't met anyone that you wanted to date yet in your busy life. Sorry for the sidetrack/hijack.

Will you let us know how you get on. I have my profile up about 3 months. Haven't met anybody yet. Maybe my photo is too honest!

Go to a local speed dating event. You get to meet people and you have two minutes to decide if you like them. If you've got single friends it is a good night out to go together

While we were still dating and against her better judgement, my wife agreed to go to one of those to give moral support to a desperate friend.

At the end of the evening, my wife had seven interested parties and her friend was still desperate. She wasn't a happy bunny.

I'd hate to be judged on my looks. I like to think I am more than that.

Oddly also I find a good few end up on my 'people you may know' on facebook, without exchanging any details.

Yeah that is a weird one. FB deny it, but if you search for someone, it then offers that 'people you may know' thing on their page. I looked up some ex-BF (not someone I liked, just someone I wanted to know what had happened to them as he had a lot of 'mental instabilities' shall we say). He then sent me a chatty bloody message saying I'd popped up on his FB. OMG I was so embarrassed.

I've looked loads of people up and have had to go back and block a lot of them!

Oh, and to clarify, I would NEVER use a filter or any sort of photoshopping type thing! Really don't agree with that... What's the point!

There used to be some really stunning men on dating websites; unfortunately, when you put their photos into Google images, they had 'borrowed' photos of models, film stars, or other very attractive people!
