Isn't soaking in milk the thing for getting ink out?

I'll see if there's another thread .................. here you go. I'll merge this later to keep ideas together.

Cheap and nasty hairsprya is usually the best thing. Sometimes if it is that bad you need to do it a couple of times. Try it again.

Why don't you try mystic power Jamaican Blue bar Soap? Very good for stain removal and brightening white clothes. google it and you should find it under carbolic soap company.

I have had a sort of bargain of a life time today.

Saw a Radley tan coloured acorss the body leather bag in a charity shop for 50p.......but it has an ink blot on the outside in a area of about a square centimetre, where a biro has leaked through the lining and into the leather.

I couldn't leave it in the CS, so now it's on the sink having yet another treatment to try and remove the ink.

I started with a cotton bud and milk working my way inwards, then went onto nail varnish remover, some ink did come off, but the blot is still there.
Then I went onto hair spray, it didn't shift, last resort was a fibre cloth and stardrops-still it's not budged!

I know all the above will lift the colour, but that doesn't matter so much as I have shoe polish in about the same colour tan, which I can use on the area, and even if there is a lighter patch, it won't look so bad as the ink blot.
I think the ink has been there for a long time, the bag is quite well used and does smell musty.

Just wondered if anyone else had any ideas?

The other think I though of was getting a "scottie dog" from somewhere in leather, and sticking it over the blot??

    Thnak you for anyones help
    Andrea.

  • Not sure about getting the ink out, but ebay sell little radle scottie dog tags that might cover the area.

Could try those pens that kids use to remove ink, they look like a white felt tip, sorry don't know the proper name for them, its a magic pen or something similar.

I'm sure the original owner must have tried all sorts of things to remove the ink-stain from such a costly item, I know I would have.

I'd be temped to forget about attempting any more stain-removal and resign myself to dyeing it.

    Hi

2 tips from "Trade Secrets" - the book of the BBC series

1 = methylated spirits, good on fresh stains

2 = silver polish wadding, followed by clean cotton wool - this was to get biro marks off a photo

I`m posting to say an enormous thankyou to everyone who has posted on this thread :A

DH has a biro which had leaked in the back pocket of his jeans and had sat down on the brand new sofa

The sofa is a very pale beige colour and there were 8 large patches of ink on it, i managed to get the cover off the cushion and have used hairspray on it. Its like a miracle :j

I`ve gone over it twice as the stains were very bad and now i Can`t see any ink at all, i`ll check later to see whether or not it needs any more treatment but i`m really relieved that its worked.

    Thankyou all so much :A
