Dashcam footage

Yesterday I had the misfortune to be behind an idiot who slowed down to 54 mph in the fast lane of the A1 to stop me getting past, I moved into the lafthand lane as I was turning off at the next junction, the car in front thought I was going to undertake him so he accelerated.
If I pass this video onto the police will they do anything or am I wasting my time?
The video can be seen here

Thanks.

  • They won't do anything, don't waste your time. Unfortunately even with video evidence the police seem too overstretched to bother taking action against such idiots. My brother had someone slam their brakes on in front of him like a crash for cash scam, and the guy pulled over and got out the car so even his face is on video clear as day so no disputing the actions or the driver.....police took a statement, and his memory card, and that was the end of it. No action was taken.
  • I can't see that the Range Rover did anything massively wrong there. He didn't impede you as you were turning off anyway.

Dashcam video could be used to support your evidence of any offence (you would still have to make a statement and be prepared to attend court), but I can't see anywhere near enough for any action in that video.

Just looked like mildly annoying driving, but nothing worth wasting the police's time with

The funny thing about these video posts is we never see what led up to the event. What makes you think he deliberately slowed down in front of you to obstruct you or in fact made a deliberate act to stop you passing on the left, which by your own admission you weren't going to do anyway.

Or posting your dashcam footage on the tube ;)
  • Just for the record, I have footage were it shows me behind him for a few miles before the video I posted, nothing wrong with either his or my driving, I just don't understand why he slowed down to 54mph in the outside lane when there was nothing in front of him?
It may be mildly annoying to some, but having attended a lot of RTC's actually on is stretch of the A1, I can tell you it's irresponsible driving like this that causes accidents, which sometimes involves innocent parties being hurt or killed.

    Third Anniversary
i had footage of someone reading a broadsheet newspaper on the motorway, day after I had a van driver reading a large piece of paper (A3 at least). Both of these I had clear footage of the number plate and my passenger turned the camera to show the offence and the drivers clearly.

Contacted the police to see if they'd be interested. Never even got the dignity of a "no thanks"

Well if people kept a safe distance behind any vehicle regardless as to what speed they were travelling at, there wouldn't be any accidents. If you would have hit the Range Rover, it would have deemed to be your fault.
