I'd say wait and see what CAB say tomorrow

They may be able to fit you in within the timescale
My request for someone to help with a PIP application form was made over 5 weeks ago and I still haven't heard from them.

Based on a discussion I have been having with people on here you can ask the DWP for an extension of the time limit. It seems to be negotiable from 7 days and upward
I don't think an extension of time would be given to ask for a MR. The time given is 28 days. The extension of time would be given to send back forms for PIP/DLA or ESA.
  • Another question, is a hand written letter acceptable, or is it best to use computer and print one out.....I struggle with these document writer things.....presumably CAB will tell me this ?.....if I can get an appointment.......Jack.

So- have you been back to them to ask what is happening?

    I've seen both

Given my handwriting I'd always type it (!) but as long as it's legible and you've got your case across it should be fine

This may help you - both with the process and having a think about what you might say. The example on mobility is quite close to what you raised

Worth looking at what is said about following up a telephone request with a letter, too

I tend to agree with you and you have now answered my other question about the 30 day limit to send further information to the DWP.

Neil, Thanks for that, very informative and interesting, I am definitely going for an MR, as I believe that I have a good case for at least the lower rate of PIP on both daily living and mobility, otherwise I would not have claimed in the first place.....we shall see, I have nothing to lose......Jack.

    Jack,

This is useful guide to the appeal process:
    http://www.advicenow.org.uk/guides/how-win-pip-appeal.

As Neil says the decision is rarely changed at MR stage. So make sure you get this back to the DWP by the required date. Then you can move onto the next stage of the process, which is an appeal to the tribunal service.
    Here is an MR proforma:

You need 2 additional points for a DL award. What points were awarded for what activities?
This PIP assessment guide gives an indication of which points should be appropriate.
    https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/547146/pip-assessment-guide.pdf
I would suggest you look at DL activities 4, 5, & 6 in addition to the aid for preparing meals.
Do you need an aid/assistance to dress (particularly shoes ans socks); rails to hold onto when getting safely on/off the toilet; shower seat / bath rails?
    https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/547146/pip-assessment-guide.pdf Page 108 on.

As pmlinyloo wrote "Often the key is whether you can do things safely, reliably and in a timely fashion - do you think this would apply?"

This is a good website - it has a very detailed section on PIP appeals:
    http://www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/personal-independence-payment-pip/pip-appeals
Alice Holt Forest situated some 4 miles south of Farnham forms the most northerly gateway to the South Downs National Park.
  • I believe that only about 4% of MR's are successful but if you go to appeal its somewhere up in the 60% range. I think they can give you a extension of 14 days if you have not had chance to get more evidence in. Have you requested a copy of the assessors report? If not call and ask for one then go through it seeing what you disagree with. Get as much evidence as you can from DRs, hospitals etc . Tell them not to do it until you have sent it in writing along with your evidence. You need to remember to be able to do something you have to be able to do it safely, repeatably and in reasonable time.
