Son on way to heathrow had bag stolen with passport

Really looking for advice, on tube his bag was snatched, tfl police said it had happened loads this morning.

His flight is at 12pm with American Airlines so no chance of getting that now.

He was off to Philadelphia to visit his gf for 2 weeks

He is grabbing passport forms and photos and taking it to a counter signatory to get passport reissued

passport office say as it is lost/stolen it will take max 7 days from appt tomorrow.

He only has 10 days off work and can't extend his holiday.

He had no insurance, yes we told him but at his age 20 he thinks he is invincible.

Anyway we can sort this out quicker?

We fully realise new flights will be needed but cant book without passport.

Is it worth him going back into london to passport office and him trying to see someone or is there no chance?

He is totally devastated as is gf.

    1 day Premium service

You can get your passport the same day if you provide a completed application form, 2 photos and all your supporting documents. You can usually collect it 4 hours after your appointment.

not sure if that's just for new passport

    looks like no

You can’t use this service on changing a standard adult 32-page passport, changing an adult 48-page passport, replacing a lost, stolen or damaged adult passport or obtaining, renewing or replacing a child passport.

  • No he can't if it's lost or stolen sadly :(

He will need to wait 7 days, if it was renewal etc and he was in receipt of passport he can get it the same day.

How awlful for him !! What horrid people in this world !

I can understand there is a system in place but surely people lose passports or have them stolen and need to travel or have flights booked.

I'm still with go back to London to passport office and beg, can't hurt. Just no idea of any other way.

  • Toniq honestly going back to London won't change it even if you beg. People have begged, been in tears everything. Under no circumstances will they issue a same day passport for a lost or stolen at all! They can't under any circumstances ;(

    Sorry

Rather than knee jerk reactions, would it be possible for him to just accept "well that's that then" ... and be glum, before phoning his boss to explain and asking if he can cancel his holiday and go back into work and rebook it in a few months' time?

Could his gf book holiday and him pay for her to come here in 1-2 weeks' time?

He can't get any more time off he works in airport security out of all jobs and it will play havoc with rosters.

She can't come to Uk as she has kids at school.

We were told as he has an appt tomorrow and a crime reference number
there's a chance if they can slot him in today they will and he might have passport by weekend.

It's all down to the assessor to decide but where he has flight tickets etc it backs his case.

We are only an hour away so he is about to go back and at least try, if not tomorrows appt he will have to plead his case and hope it is quicker than the 7 days.

    Thanks for help everyone

He knows it wont be same day but they are saying it should be quicker than 7 days as it's a quiet time, so hoping it will be a few days time and then it's just a shorter trip than planned.

  • Do you have an annual travel insurance policy for the family, perhaps linked to a bank account?

If he's in full time education and living with you then he might be covered.

Far better that he doesn't get to the USA than arrives and has an uninsured medical emergency.
