Enjoy.
PurpleFairy, I've just written a couple of dates on my calendar now after reading your post! Thank you for that as I think we could have missed an appointment for Tuesday otherwise!
Glad to be of service :rotfl:0 -
Thanks for your advice Yorkshire - I do worry about them being fussy eaters because I will eat pretty much everything. We have meal planned though, and fingers are firmly crossed for the week ahead.
Foxgloves - I love Mr S for shopping, but it's a bit of a treat for me to be honest because it is notably more expensive than some of the other places. We did ours today between Aldee and Mr T and it was just shy of £80 (plus an extra tenner treating myself to specialbuy wool) The meal plan for the next few days is done and I'm really hoping that this will help us to save some money.

FVD, I think online there was something about which code it has on them due to the treatment they use - I was looking at making veg planters with pallets. Thanks for the comment re spends...still a little annoyed with myself.
Today has been ok but DD was very tired after a sleepover at a friends house last night and had a meltdown at session with our membership...frustrating as she really enjoyed it last week but she was allowed to stay up way past her bedtime so understandable she was so tired.
Need to reconcile budget but hard to do as my bank is doing maintenance on their site until tomorrow afternoon so will have to wait.
Going to watch a bit of Netflix in bed and have a early night with aim to wake at a decent time tomorrow and be productive.Happiness is wanting what you have...0 -
CCL from my experience with my now adult DD is that they grow out of it as long as you don't make a massive fuss - she will forever hate mushrooms I think but when young over the years her food group slowly expanded and now I can pretty much feed her anything. Its all trial and error as is the rest of parentingHappiness is wanting what you have...0

Quick question, is the wood used to make pallets okay to use as firewood? I know wood needs to be dried so you don't get a build up of creosote but I've never noticed pallet wood being particularly sappy?
We live near an industrial estate and there is a constant supply of pallets being dumped (plus our local Garden centre are always keen to get rid of them.) I might need to invest in something to chop them up.
FatVonD We chop up pallets mainly for kindling, without any problem. The bigger pieces of wood we burn generally come from other sources (our trees as we clear the garden) and pallet wood chops down easily.
Earlier this week we had a coal deliver which we shared with 2 friends who live near by meaning we qualified for free delivery as well as getting it cheaper per 25kg bag :money: We bought enough coal to see us through to the end of winter. When the price is cheaper in the summer we intend to buy enough to see us through next winter and then only buy future coal in the summer.
Monday we spent a fortune, we booked and paid for a holiday in Devon (paid for out of Christmas money from our parents), filled OH's car up, did a big grocery shop to restock the store cupboard and we went out for lunch to celebrate ds successfully completing a course. Thankfully all planned and budgeted for. The rest of the week we haven't spent anything which is a relief.
DNMS Thank you for the link to the TED talk, it has really got me thinking. I am looking into changing how and when we do our HE lessons. I'm also thinking about prioritising some things for myself.
The last couple of days have been very cold here, we have had the stove on yesterday and today which is very rare to light it 2 days in a row.
Today I have:
Turned off lights and appliances not in use
Put kettle on stove for free hot water
HWB's for childrens beds
I've applied for a MR survey which should net me £20

Both my children detest mushrooms except when they are in Aldi's farmhouse mushroom pate, which they both like and often ask for, I think their is hope.
CCL my ds has generally liked plain food for most of his life, but in the last 6 months maybe less he has really changed his attitude. He keeps asking to try new foods and drinks, even when he doesn't think he will like them as he has decide if he finds out he likes them it would be a shame to find out in 50 years time. He eats potatoes reluctantly, when he was younger he didn't even like chips or crisps, now he won't eat jacket or boiled potatoes and only a tiny bit of mash, but roast, chips & crisps are fine.
What we try and do to limit the amount of cooking we do is even if everybody isn't eating all of the meal we try to change as few a bits as possible, for example when we have jacket potatoes ds will have his toppings with flat bread, other meals may need a bit more adjusting. Occasionally we will serve a meal that 3 people like a the 4th doesn't, which will either be served when the 4th is out or the 4th might freezer dive or eat something the others don't eat. I will not eat omelette nor macaroni cheese, so I might have a very spicy thai dish or couscous with seeds and nuts.

Thank you all, I think I need to buy myself an axe tomorrow. The neighbours always seem to have a pallet stored at the back but also get logs delivered so I guess they use the pallet wood for kindling.
Angelpye, I saw a very funny meme on pint@rest the other day, mixed in with all the other wonderful things fashioned from pallets was a disassembled one in a heap with 'I found a pallet and turned it into this' which will basically be me :rotfl:
Actually, that's not true, I did build a decking area in the garden from pallets last summer, DH did all the lifting but I was obviously the brains behind the scheme
My dinner tonight was somewhat less successful, not so much taste wise, (chicken stock and peanut butter) but that the straight to wok udon noodles were the same size, colour and consistency as when the cat puked up a tapeworm  I ended up ordering a takeaway

Re fussy eaters, when I was a child I apparently would only eat grilled tomatoes and cheese triangles.
I remember also cutting a piece of battered fish into fish finger shapes to get DSD to eat it, we still rib her about it now. A few years after that when on holiday we were served fish with the head on, she was starting to be less fussy but I asked the waiter if he could remove the head on hers. I thought he'd take it away and bring it back looking less like, well, a dead fish but he chopped it off there and then in front of her, her face was a picture :rotfl:

Bob I am on taxi duty tonight so will be up late too. DS1 was contacted by an old school friend who is having a birthday party so is going there and DS2 is out, some vague plans about visiting a friend I have never heard of. To be honest he could be anywhere, when I was his age we had a friend called "Hayley" who was a fictional person we all used to be visiting when we needed an alibi. Wonder if my Mum knows that?
Anyhow, 3 hours paid stuff done. Laundry dried over the airer, spag bol for tea, lunch was one of DHs special brunches.
Yep it's caffeine o'clock here alright...Waiting for the message so I can head out. Could be another hour yet...Ah well... Hayley eh? Now why am I thinking of the character from Corrie:rotfl:" Your vibe attracts your tribe":D
