Hello, I've just been informed by my email provider, everyone.net, that they are about to start charging for the previously free service. As of 23 March I won't have access at all, unless I pay.
This is potentially a massive problem for me. I've been using the service for ages and I've a large number of emails that I'd like to keep. I really hope they go out of business as a result of this.
What is a good, free, alternative service? I'm looking at MAIL.COM - it seems alright. I suppose there's always the risk the same thing could happen, so maybe I should use my ISP email facility.
Any recommendations?

Do not use an ISP's mail. I'd use gmail personally0

^^ Seconded . Dont use your ISP mail as you most likely wont always be with them and will face similar problems in future.
Personally i use Gmail .. Accessible from everywhere, great spam filters and works great for me.
YMMV0 -
Another vote for Gmail.
You should be able to export your emails from your current provider. Check their help files/articles.0 -
How much are they planning to charge? If you have a contractual relationship with your provider you are in a much stronger position to demand resolution if something goes wrong than you would be with a free provider, so you might want to think about actually taking them up on their offer. I use both free and paid for providers but all my important stuff goes through the paid for one.0

Just go to the relevant home pages, set up an account. Once done set the account to pick up all your email from your previous provider.
Inform everyone you can think of that you have a new email address. The new account will continue to pick up any stray emails from your old account until they stop the account, by which time you should find that you have totally switched.Drinking Rum before 10am makes you

There are other email providers?
I see a lot of job application forms and cant help but think badly of the people who use anything other than google (and its variants) or hotmail. ('@outllook.... dude you set that up on your pager?')
OH has an @live email address, i shudder every time i hear it.
Apparently 50% of email domains are @gmail. Yahoo and hotmail take 2/3 with ~7% each.0 -
Get you own domain, then use email forwarding to which ever ISP you're currently with.0

Outlook.com is MUCH newer than hotmail (my first hotmail address back around 1993-ish was just 4 characters long before the @!), outlook.com is the reworked hotmail engine. Live.com is also Microsoft and uses the same engine. It's not worth shuddering about any of them ;-)0
