NST February Challenge : A Winter Voyage

Hello,
no SFD for me over the weekend. Spend too much time in B&Q, Tesco and Aldi. Did the big shop and got a few things for the house (lampshades, paint, caulk etc).
Finally managed to do the first dig in the garden. will need to prepare the veg patches more thoroughly soon and cut Oscar (our apple tree).
Also managed to stand on my phone :doh: and crack the screen badly. It's just a cheap Alcatel one and I found a replacement for £29. Cancelled the order this morning though as a bit of sticky tape will have to do for now.

Positive versus Negative Goals
Students in Manchester set up an experiment in the city centre some years ago (DS3 and I had seen it but didn't know what it was). The put a large red button (red nose car size) on the inside of a bus shelter and a large red circle on the floor with an arrow and instructions. Button and sign said 'Do not Press the red button'. The students counted how many people did.
I also remember a Darren Brown episode where people were left in a room with a cute kitten and a button. They were told several times that they (absolutely/ under any circumstances) must not press the button or the kitten would die. They did.
Apparently (obvious from the behaviour of the guinea pigs) if we are told No or Not To, we humans become obsessed by the thing that is forbidden. We are drawn to it and eventually we crack and give in.
Two more points on setting goals
3 Focus on what you want. Choose goals that relate to your priorities eg losing weight to improve your health. You are more likely to achieve your aims if they really matter to you.
4 Look for multiple benefits. Pick behaviours that satisfy multiple things that are important to you eg a walking group could help you control your weight, improve your mood and get you outside and socialising.
Love the quote tog.
I find Mr Tumble a bit creepy. Not sure why. Small children and mum's partner love him (cbeebies recommended by his social worker). I.m a huge lego fan.My mission in life is not only to survive,but to thrive and to do so with some Passion, some Compassion, some Humour and some Style.NST SEP No 1 No Debt No mortgage0 -
Right just finished reading the thread for Feb :shocked: Good job I'm a quick reader! Hello to everyone who remembers me from January. I am so sorry to miss you all. I've been trying to keep up the money saving and did well in January - 14 NSDs which is fantastic for me. Managed 5/15 so far in February. But I have overspent on food shopping and freezers and cupboards are full to the brim. I need to work on just eating what we have ... I'm so bad at just buying more. And yesterday I couldn't resist the £7.99 champagne in Lidl and bought two bottles despite having 4 bottles of champagne and 4 bottles of Prosecco in the garage ... very silly.
I have had a mad few weeks at school (I'm a teacher.) Crazy 60 - 70 hour weeks. I have already done 8 hours of marking and it's only Monday of half term!:eek:
Looking forward to doing some personal catch ups next time.
Grateful for:
1. Gorgeous husband
2. Lovely caring children
3. Full cupboards/freezers
See you soon xNSDs January 14

I am with you Mothernerd Mr Tumble creeps me out big time. He rode the local tram I couldn't take gs he scares me.:o
Well sat in office drenched from head to toe. Tap wasn't working and then it suddenly was sprayed everywhere. Stopped me going near the shops, sat with a towel stuffed up my dress trying to dry out and it's only Monday.:eek:
Was sat here reading Life is Short, take the trip, buy the shoes, eat the cake. Not had a night out since before Christmas, have paid off over 1300 off my debts since 1st Dec. so bought gig ticket for next week I wanted to see these guys last time they came around but hesitated with money thing, happy going to see Mike and Mechanics - sorry most of you will have to google who they are. I will be on naughty step tomorrow probably as well, determined to buy a new coat, decided I want to look smarter, hopefully sales still on and have a day off.:)LBM 13039 1.1.13 Now £0 Finally Debt FreeMortgage free Oct 2019:)EFund/savings £25000 10/11/220 -

I have no strong opinions on Mr Tumble/ Justin - I think he's good at what he does but he's not my cup of tea. My children (when younger) haven't been fussed on him either way when he's been on
NSD today - went to PO to get rid of a flebay parcel (postage covered by buyer) and popped into Tesc0 next door to check for dolphins - found a few of the ones we like so bagged them
Easy day at home other than that - little bit of clearing out here and there, thoroughly cleaned the downstairs loo (has had no more than a quick wipe around the past couple of weeks) and bottomed out the understairs cupboard and sorted all the coats/ scarves etc hanging around in the hall. Two loads of washing and 40 mins of ironing. Messed around with the 3 boys in the kitchen - involving bubbles from (clean) washing up water, a tea towel and a couple of spatulas- fun five minutes - and DS3 even took it upon himself to wipe up all the bubbles from the floors :T The boys have (generally) been hanging around and playing together. Big pot of chilli made for dinner tonight and then the rest can be easy food leftovers for me for other nights/ for the freezer.
Today I am thankful for:
* half term
* the sun
* being at home with my children (exc DD - away at uni)

Love the quote, TOG.
Haven't managed my "Me time" as planned but C is going out tomorrow so I've rescheduled my plans till then when I'll have peace and quiet.
Just been plodding along trying to achieve my goals and not managing too badly at the moment.
Freezing cold wind whilst I was walking so now I'm grateful for being inside with a cup of tea and looking forward to the fish pie which has been made with salmon from freezer.Have adventures. laugh a lot and always be kind.0 -
Mr Tumble/Justin was an old colleague's family friend who said he is very wealthy and somewhat of a ladies man!
I can't stand his programmes and DFIL took DS to see Justin's House when it toured a couple of years ago. I would rather have stuck needles in my eyes :eek:
DS used to love In the Night Garden and would cry when it finished :rotfl:Save £10,500 - £2673.77 - 25.5%
