If you can avoid paying interest by getting another 0% cc I would. Especially as the interest you're being paid on savings will be so much less than you'll be paying out.
I totally get that you'd hate having no savings though. Perhaps work out the position you'd be in paying down the cc and not in 6 months. As long as you stick to your resolve to save after you've paid off the first cc you'll be much better off.
Great to see you sorting out the cards. How is your bf taking the new you?CCs @0% £24k Dec 05 £19,621.41 Au £13400 S 12600 Oct £11,981 £9481 £7500 Nov £7250 D £7100 Jan 6950 F £5800 Mar£5400 May £4830 June £4660 July £4460 Aug £3200, S £900, £0 18/9/07 DFW Nerd 0420 -
If you don't forsee needing your savings for an emergency, such as transport, and you are earning less in interest than you are paying on a card, it doesn't make sense not to pay off the card.
If you can't get a 0% deal, it may be worth keeping £1K and using the rest to pay off the fee card.
If you can get a 0% deal, it's far betterNon me fac calcitrare tuum culi0 -
It seems fine at the moment there has been a few questions but he gave me the 1200 back recently note why my savings went up (slightly).
If I take 2,000 out and knock Barclaycard to about £2,100 or so I can put £500x4 (maybe +1 month as a cushion). During that time I could also save £500x4 therefore recouping back original savings level.
So after 4 months I would have say £4,500 in savings again.
After card one is done, I would put £300 to it as I said before and save maybe £800 a month to be safe rather than be too ambitious.
If I don't do any of this and say get another 0% I would still put £500 a month on one of the cards (or maybe £250 each) and that would take me around 2 years to pay off in full versus pay off all of it in just over a year.
I'm not sure! I'm not so good at working things out. Also say I decide to take out from my savings, is it still worth seeking out a 0% card to avoid paying interest as I pay the remaining £2,000 approx off?0 -
Hi Taff, yes the Internet on my savings is something abysmal and it's a 30 day notice account so it will take me a month to receive the money but I am seriously considering putting at least £2,000 on the interest bearing card to soften it0

Absolutely! It will save you a lot of interest. Money in your account= better than money out of your account to the bank.CCs @0% £24k Dec 05 £19,621.41 Au £13400 S 12600 Oct £11,981 £9481 £7500 Nov £7250 D £7100 Jan 6950 F £5800 Mar£5400 May £4830 June £4660 July £4460 Aug £3200, S £900, £0 18/9/07 DFW Nerd 0420

True, thank you. Think I will apply to withdraw £2,000 today. That makes it seem a bit more bearable although still disheartening!

You can aso look into better interest savings accounts. There are at least 3% paying accounts, you can either drop in a lump sum or feed with a maximum per month.
Go to the savings/investments, bank accounts/budgeting boards and have a look for he best saver bank accounts threads.Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi0 -

Hi you're in a good position to pay this off, if you are planning on paying 2000 from your savings to reduce the balance to 2100 i would then pay the 500 a month plus the 500 you want to save and you could have the card paid in a couple of months probably pay less interest and then have lots to throw at your savings. I understand you want to save but you already would have a good amount in savings and could soon clear this and rebuild them, i would pay the least interest possible.PAYDBX 2017 #073 2571/£2500
