Hi diary world
I'm back and trying to catch up. Our visitor has left now and we have had a very busy few days. Its strange how I don't feel at all relaxed when I have visitors staying. Although they are very laid back and easy going I still felt on edge in case they didn't feel comfortable or welcome. I know they did but I suppose it's just me.
I'm shattered though as I'm so used to relaxing and having early nights when I'm at work .
Debt wise I have no exciting news to share only that I've made a few small overpayments and our budget is looking ok. We certainly never overdone it at the weekend so a bonus there.Emptying my lake with a teaspoon0 -
Hi all
Yes I am at work again secretly reading diaries etc
I have been looking back over previous threads and posts from when I started my journey.
A poster used these words on a thread I found so inspiring
'Repaying high debt is like emptying a lake with a teaspoon'.
So from now on I will be sailing along like so:- A ship and a teaspoon
- A boat and a teaspoon
- A canoe and a teaspoon
- A raft and a teaspoon
- A lilo and a teaspoon
- Arm bands and a teaspoon
- Wellies and a teaspoon
- Finally a cloth to mop up the last few drops
DHs payday tomorrow and I still have £20 left in the weekly budget. Have just made another small overpayment :T
Just sailing off to do some work before I get anymore puzzled stares from across the room :rotfl:Emptying my lake with a teaspoon0 - A ship and a teaspoon

Evening all :hello:
Monday work been and gone already. It's flown by today. Apparently we are having snow tomorrow evening. Maybe I will get up Wednesday for work, be snowed in and can't get to work. We live in hope lol.
I've just logged into my virgin media account as I know the bill generates today. £84.35 in credit  How that's happened I've no idea. I think because I pay some weekly in line with my budget it's built up over time. I'm not complaining and will still continue to pay weekly to keep us in front. See I can do some things right with money :rotfl:
Made another small overpayment today of a whole £10. It makes me feel like I'm making some headway at least.
I have just prepared a chicken curry in the slow cooker. I will cook it on low for a longer time. I've never done this before I usually cook it on the hob. It smells ok but time will tell.
I want to start using the slow cooker more for convenience and being winter we like stews casseroles etc. I'm a bit short on ideas as I only really use it for stew. Will search the internet for ideas.
Still sailing along here with teaspoon at the ready

Evening diary world
I've just noticed how long since I posted on here (smacks hand)
In my last post I said I was making chicken curry in the slow cooker and it was amazing and all ready when I got home from work. I planned to freeze some but there was nothing left :rotfl:
That's an excellent sign in this house.
Still struggling to find what else to cook in there though. Will keep looking for ideas.
Waiting for payday next week so I can make another round of payments. We also had car insurance renewal through and it's £34 cheaper :T. Love it when we get a discount.

Hi all
Feeling very peeved this morning and I've no idea why
Home alone for the weekend as DH is away visiting family. One good thing is I have all housework done already, just need to wash the kitchen floor and plan to have a really chilled day. TV, coffee, and not much else
Just feeling a little down about money and our overall mess. I have no idea what's sparked this mood and have a feeling its to do with our house that I so desperately want to decorate from top to bottom but have to do little by little (slowly) Years ago I would've hit the shops with CC in tow and buy exactly what I wanted/needed. Reality check for me (again)
I know our debt is decreasing bit by bit as opposed to going through the roof if I hadn't had my LBM but I suppose I'm just having an off day. We've put our holiday plans to bed due to the car situation so this will have to wait another year.
Someone please give me a huge kick up the back side and a couple of reality slaps around the mush to bring me back up again .Emptying my lake with a teaspoon0 -
Hi motivated,
I'm not good at giving virtual kicks, but all these little overpayments...every one of them is something that's gone, left behind, no longer a ball and chain. And as your teaspoon list shows, the whole thing snowballs.
Houses seem to be a never-ending source of things needing to be done. Do before and after pictures help you to see progress? When I do this (even if it's something everyday like clearing the kitchen) I do like looking at the end result, which doesn't show the things still wanting attention, it just shows what I've achieved! Or a list where you can cross off what's done or transfer it to an achievements list.
Is it delaying the holiday that's getting you down? If so, are there any little treats you could plan to give you something to look forward to?
Hope you feel better soon - sending you some of this lovely sunshine that's currently helping me along.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)
The sun's been out and I think I’m solar powered (Onebrokelady)

Hi cherry and thank you
I don't think it's the holiday as I get the 6 weeks holidays off and I plan to paint cheaply a good few rooms. As for the before and after I've bleached all my bathroom this morning and cleaned down all the kitchen worktops. I moved things around and I looked at it now and feel better for it. It won't stay tidy for long once DH returns tomorrow evening :rotfl:
I suppose when payday arrives on Friday and I've made some more payments this will boost me a little. It's just that I seem to have got back in the habit of looking at the bigger picture. This is something I'm the first to tell others not to do.
One positive is I've renewed the car insurance for another year and cheaper than last

Me again
Been sat with my old faithful pen and paper writing down DDs and SOs (again). Come Friday I know exactly to the penny how much I have to pay out and how much I will have left. I've ordered an online shop for the exact amount I budgeted for to be delivered Friday also and then I have budgeted the remainder cash into pots and overpayments. I have it all in black and white in a notebook and will make sure I stick to it like glue ticking off as I go. I have also written down the amount I aim to pay off in the next 4 months instalments (bank of MIL) and after this I will have extra left over to pay into our F&F account. By December I plan to make an offer to our smallest debt in the hope they will accept
If I had a pound for the times I've done this
Anyway I have kicked myself up the ar5e, given myself a good talking to, reminding myself where I was 24 months ago and feel a little more upbeat again.
Have decided that holiday plans can wait until next year (hopefully) as it's not a necessity and would feel better knowing my debt is going down otherwise I'm constantly battling with myself.
Talking myself back into swimming regularly too. It always keeps me fitter physically and helps to keep me from worrying about what ifs
Also feel better knowing I've given the house the once over, laundry and ironing done and then had a nice relaxing day

See - progress made!
The long haul is daunting, though, so I think it's a great idea to have an interim goal and an F&F would be a real boost.
