What else am I forgetting to clean?

Next I'm at mum's I'll set the grandchildren (they are all taller than I am) to neatly folding & placing newspaper on top of her high cabinets. Me, I'll take on the fridge, where I've learned an American Sneaky chest - wash the shelves, dry them, then wrap them in cling film.
Even one layer & the next regrettable splodge is swiftly sorted.
Mum will *probably* not be hideously offended - she's recovering from leg surgery & is nor supposed to be weight bearing for 3 months so Anything we do to minimise cleaning will probably be acceptable. Dad may comment, but the simple response would be, well I saw you hadn't...
Huge thanks for all the ideas!0 -
That's a good idea. Mine aren't a straight edge - they have a pelmet thing around so you can't see the tops whatever angle you're at, but that's a much better idea for people who have visible cabinet topsI do that but do it with baking paper which is less visible than newspaper as it's almost see through. When I did the tops with Metro it bothered me more visibly (when you're standing at a little distance from the cupboards the top is more visible).

Tops of door frames. I clean these every week but that comes from lots of march outs and people in white gloves! :-D0

I use an electric tin opener, and it's cleverly designed so that the "business end" comes off for washing. I wouldn't dream of putting it away unwashed! Eewww!
I've always been shocked whenever I've seen someone use a can-opener and then put it right back in the drawer. I was raised that you wash them each time, scrubbing the cutting wheel (and rotating it so you get access to all of it). If you don't, it gets filthy and then you risk introducing that filth into anything you open.
Answers on a postcard please.....I don't understand where all the bits in the cutlery tray come from, everything in there goes in clean so how come there's always crumbs in the bottom?
Though in our house, Number One Suspect is Mr LW's infuser ball that he uses for tea leaves, if he's having a cuppa and I'm not.
I tried the newspaper on the kitchen cupboards, but as I use the tops for extra storage, for things like the spare box of bran flakes (always have one in use and one spare) and such like, I found that when I got something down to use, which I do from floor level using one of those long grabber thingies, I was dragging the paper down as well. Nowadays I just send Mr LW up there on the step stool, with a soapy cloth in his hand quite frequently, and it doesn't get too bad.If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0 -

When we replaced our kitchen many years ago, I made sure that we designed the cutlery drawer to be away from the main food prep area for just this reason. Crumbs get knocked in off the worktops however clean you try and keep the worktop. It still happens with the current placement, but far less so than the previous position. I just get in with a handheld vacuum and suck the crumbs out when most of the cutlery is in the dishwasher.
OK I suppose I should be washing the cutlery tray too.......Make £2025 in 2025

How tall are you? I could never see the tops of cupboards even in my parents house. No chance in my current flat, they're well above head level even with my steps (which I require to get anything out of the top shelf or back of the middle shelf!)About the oven where the temperature markings have been scrubbed off, it might be possible to find a picture of the cooker on the internet or download the instruction booklet and copy the markings onto the cooker using a marker pen?
I bought an oven thermometer and roughly calibrated it, but I think it is a bit tempermental anyway. Thanks

And why is it that if workmen have to drag out a cooker, fridge or other appliance, along with the shame-making grot and general muck there are always an inordinate number of dried up peas.
If anyone now posts and says that they regularly pull all their appliances out and scrub under and round them please note - you are not my friend.

I can be your friend, mine only gets cleaned if i drop something in between the cooker and the cupboards and i'll ask hubby to drag it out the grot ridden hole its been living in..... and yes, those peas get everywhere. :rotfl:This is a system account and does not represent a real person. I have a bin in the cupboard under my sink. I empty it regularly otherwise it starts to smell and I clean with anti-bac spray and wipe with kitchen roll before putting a new bag in. I also wipe the shelf of the cupboard that the bin stands on.
Every few weeks I soak the inside of the bin in a solution of bleach & hot water and the lid and I scrub the "hard to reach" corners of the lid with an old toothbrush. I also wipe all the sides of the bin.
But I never though to do underneath ! The other day I knocked the bin over when taking the full bag out and it was filthy
How many of you clean the bottom of your kitchen bin ?
I always forget the top of my fridge freezer too
I'm not too worried about these things though - I think in these cases what you cant see doesn't hurt you - and surely a bit of muck builds up your tolerance to germs

I have a gas engineer check my gas stove once a year which involves dragging it out a little way. I always clean under there a week or so before the appointment, so I won't be shown up by the ickiness.
I can't remember when I last moved the fridge out, tho, so does that mean I can be your [STRIKE]fiend[/STRIKE] err friend?!:rotfl:Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.
