So the price has gone up a chunk from the initial estimates - £6,800-£8,000 was being mentioned back in April.

If you say so, but personally I thought $9k was very close to the lower end of that range ($8,500-$10,000), not a chunk more.

Still a lot of wonga! I suppose if the lease is actually good value depends on the list price being competitive.....

You ain't wrong about it being a lot of wonga...

(23 x £601.57) + £2,003.71 = £15,839.82 = 99p/mile, if you take the lease to the absolute maximum mileage included, 8k/yr. And excess mileage is "POA"

This may have been mentioned before, but here's the Renault K-ZE crossover to sell in China for ~$9000. It's only about 120 mile range and 65mph, but both sound fine to me for most needs. Also probably very basic and not up to our safety standards, but excellent competition for $10k ICE cars in China. :T

Renault K-ZE electric crossover launches in China for just ~$9,000
That's more like it. Much closer to what the world needs than the current best selling EV. And probably as good quality ;).

    Great news from Amazon:

Rivian is going to make 100,000 electric delivery vans for Amazon

Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos has announced Rivian, an electric vehicle startup that took a $700 million investment from the online retailer, is going to make 100,000 electric delivery vans for them.

At the National Press Club in Washington, D.C., Bezos announced plans to address climate change, and the new electric delivery vehicles were part of the announcement.

The CEO said that the agreement was made official, and Amazon is committed to buying 100,000 electric delivery vans from Rivian to be deployed between 2021 and 2024.

Cheaper than plenty of diesel Jags for similar terms:
    https://leasing.com/independent-brokers/leasing-options-limited/jaguar/xf/385971207/
    That ones a 3.0D XF @ £732.80 with £2397 initial.
    So £19,251.40 = £1.20/mile.

That makes the I-Pace seem like a bargain before you even factor in the fuel costs.

"Bargain" is the wrong word. "Slightly less ridiculously expensive", I'll go with.

Anything even vaguely in the direction of a quid a mile to rent a car for local pootling is just mind-meltingly stupid.

To us, maybe, but I don't think we're the "driving a brand new Jaguar" kind of folk. That's more because I can't afford it rather than some philosophical reason.

For some, £1/mile to drive a nice car is no big deal. Plenty of people pay a lot more.

Ergo, to the sort of person who'd be buying/leasing a new Jag, the I-Pace is a bargain. As I said, It's already 21p/mile cheaper than the XF before you factor in fuel. Honest John says the 3.0DV6 does about 36mpg, so we're looking at about another 18p/mile in diesel Vs say 4p/mile in electric.

So the I-Pace is 35p/mile cheaper than the XF - bargain.
