In city traffic a 20 minute tea, pee and stretch break is going to put a decent bit of mileage back in the battery, particularly given city conditions. That presupposes a few more chargers, but if one is taken most cabbies will not be stopping at the limits so they can go off and do a few more fares. Great excuse for not going to LHR or south of the river.. "sorry luv, running short of charge".. :-)

    I really don't think it's a major problem.

Stations aside, London black cabs don't tend to queue on ranks, though. They usually simply get hailed while driving around.
They drive around in order to get hailed.

Yes the new LEVC Taxis look brilliant and from speaking to a couple of cabbies they are so much better than the old diesel cabs. Will certainly go a long way to cleaning up our city centers :)

If you ever need an electric van, then they are going to be selling a white van version of the black cab. Ideal for deliveries around town.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.

I think IKEA and similar places could do their credentials no end of good by renting out electric vans to get larger loads home. I can get to my nearest store by train, which is fine for smaller purchases, but it would be a real boost if you could train there, buy, load and transport, then return the vehicle and get home on your cheap day return.

Certainly worth an experiment on their part.

Most of them already rent diesel vans via Hertz I think. I'd imagine most customers are within a single charge return trip and they aren't busy enough for a 30 minute charge to be a problem. It'd likely save everyone the hassle of dealing with refueling.

Mart. Cardiff. 8.72 kWp PV systems (2.12 SSW 4.6 ESE & 2.0 WNW). 20kWh battery storage. Two A2A units for cleaner heating. Two BEV's for cleaner driving.

For general PV advice please see the PV FAQ thread on the Green & Ethical Board.

The economics of full EV are as unattractive to Ikea as they are to Joe the public. Hence Ikea won't be doing this anytime soon.

    What makes you think that?

Electric Van's might still be a bit expensive, but that won't be forever.

The economics are such that many delivery companies are moving to EVs for city centre de,iveries. They fit the range, they need little maintenance and frequent start/stop isn't a strain on diesels or batteries in petrol nor are they left idling wasting fuel
  • I have decided to go for a Tesla Model 3 Performance as my next company car.

Much of my travel for work is to the airport and back which is a 90 mile round trip.

But the fact the tax is cutting to 0% for 20-21, then to 1% for 21-22, makes it a no brainer for company car tax!

Literally a few car from April onwards!
