Ickle article on a 200k mile Tesla S, and its battery is still at 89% despite the majority of charging being at Superchargers.
Is it safe to assume that many BEV's coming out today should beat this, and the age of 500k BEV batts has arrived (or is now arriving).

Very lukewarm review of doing a long journey in an EV here. Mainly due to the poor charging infrastructure.
I admit this has put me off a good bit
https://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/electric-car-volkswagen-e-golf-london-cornwall-drive-a9056226.htmlThe Nissan Leaf owner who warned me about the charging stops not working told me she hires cars for long journeys. To me that is absurd. Owning a car is about more than just having a convenient commuting vehicle. It’s about the freedom it affords you. If you can’t wake up on a sunny Saturday morning and drive a couple of hours to the nearest beach, or pile the kids in and take them on holiday, what’s the point? While those situations may only make up a fraction of your driving habits, if the car you own actually restricts you from doing any of those things, is there any real value?0 -

I read this and I found it interesting, as I've driven to Cornwall (Bude) before and wondered if I went again whether I would use the Zoe or not...
My Zoe has bigger battery and better range than the Golf, however it has no DC rapid charging. According to abetterrouteplanner, I could do it in 6hrs, allowing for around 1hour charging, whereas the e-Golf suggests around 6hr30min....More stops, but faster charging
So it does make me question how it could take as long as 9hours...? They don't say how long they stopped to charge each time, and therefore it's not possible to determine how long the journey would have been with a petrol.
Having said all that, a short range EV for a 250mile odd journey is certainly a challenge, and the charging infrastructure definitely needs work! In contrast, I would love to see the author do the same journey in a Tesla...!
According to the route planner, you would only need a single stop for charge for 8mins. The much longer range and the abundance of superchargers and incredibly charging speeds make it the obvious choice for any long journey. It shows exactly what can be achieved with EVs when you have a good efficient , long range EV and a coherent, rapid, well maintained and supported charging infrastructure.0 -

Incompetence and makes a better story? He does admit he didn't start with a full battery and was otherwise quite complimentary about the car.
Edited to say, yep, charging is still an issue which needs far more planning than it should. Could have been worse: crossing mid-Wales, for example!
But it's still the capital cost that is delaying my leap to an EV and not the charging issue, as I seem to be reasonably informed about the limitations. At least this journalist equipped themselves with a good range of cards and apps: which illustrates the issue again!0 -

What's wrong with the idea of hiring a car when needed? You could save a fortune by doing the daily commute in a small EV, and then hire an SUV or MPV to take the family to the beach or on holiday.
I know a few people who don't own a car and just hire one on the occasions they need it, though that's a bit more of a nuisance in terms of collecting and dropping it off.0 -

Until you were handed a massive bill for a new clutch or some other made-up damage every time you hired a car.0 -
I can't have my favourite furry dice or Aldi car dab tuner in a rental. And won't find my bags for life in the boot either.0
