Electric cars

Yep, but I don't want to buy a car where the battery rental per month is more than I currently pay in fuel. "I" models are few and far between and significantly more expensive.
You're right, but it's an 'electric Clio' - it ain't posh, and neither's a Leaf.0 -
Yawn, tired.
Got up early to absorb some of the TMY info.
But, there's actually nothing much to report, the MY is a beefed up M3, with twice the storage space and the option of 3 row seating, cool.
Looks nice, very similar to the MX, and good prices and specs. Production late 2020.
My big takeawy, was the comment that it took Tesla 10yrs to produce the first half million cars, but will only take one year to produce the second half million. Nice. Also, during that 10yrs, EV's have gone from silly but might do ok, to the future of transport.
Looks like the world is going electric, no putting the EV gennie back in the bottle now.Mart. Cardiff. 8.72 kWp PV systems (2.12 SSW 4.6 ESE & 2.0 WNW). 20kWh battery storage. Two A2A units for cleaner heating. Two BEV's for cleaner driving.

Nothing new, just repeating thoughts after the Tesla V3 supercharger upgrade, but the TMY long range (336 miles) can add 168 miles in 15mins - a fact that I think is key to EV's becoming ICE killers. That's a pee and coffee break after 2-3hrs, or every 2-3hrs after perhaps a longer initial drive (fuller battery at journey start).

Have you seen a UK price mentioned anywhere for the TMY? This being a bigger 7-seat TM3 might be sufficient to sell it to me.
Mileage really isn't a problem at 300+ miles, it's just internal space I need and that looks solved too.0 -

Hi, I haven't seen any mention of UK price. If it follows a similar timeline to the TM3 then possibly base price then Euro launch in 2yrs. Again, based on TM3, perhaps RHD 6 months later.
I've been a bit distracted today, but caught some CNBC 'expert' analysis, mostly saying the car and launch was a bit disappointing, which I suppose is fair and true since it's just an inflated 3 and no surprises hiding in the back of a truck trailer - then I reminded myself, that the TMY was always going to be a TM3+, and that's a really good package for many of us. Would certainly suit our households occasional need for extra space, but sadly way out of my price range.
Share price has slipped slightly - again disappointing / mediocre launch - and 'experts' talking about the competition coming from other car makers. Made me laugh when they talked about the E-Tron, wasn't that going to 'kill' Tesla nearly half a decade ago, then they mentioned EV's having a market share of about 2%, and I'd suggest new EV's will be fighting over the other 98% not the 2%.
Don't know if anyone else is super excited, or super negative, but for me, it's much of a muchness, just pootleing along steadily in the right direction I think.Mart. UK Model 3 prices aren't out yet, but by the of next month (April) am sure we'll know. Current best guess is £38k for long range RWD Model 3, so long range RWD Y will be a touch over £40k, and AWD version just above £45k.
Not cheap cars, but inline with what BMW/Audi wants for a decent spec X3 or Q3.
RHD versions of the Y wouldn't by here for another 18 months though, at the earliest.
Meanwhile I was forced to fit the 22inch wheels I had spare on our X after a puncture, so it's now officially the lowest range car Tesla current sell with the highest consumption - But the wheels do look fab.
Spent over 3hrs today covering 160 miles of UK rush hour motorway, another 160 miles tomorrow, and than 220 miles planned for Sunday, so over 550 miles this weekend once done, total cost for fuel will be about £10. These things are fantastic mile munches....But some people still think EVs aren't suitable for long trips :rotfl:0 -
I have a 150 mile journey tomorrow, towing a trailer, no means of charging when I get to my destination, and I'm jealous.0

I've been looking at electric cars ... are they capable of towing caravans for hours between charges yet ?
we have a caravan and don't intend on getting rid of it, just not so sure it works with an electric vehicle yet0 -

Both the iPace and Model X are rated for towing.
Range is clearly reduced, and charging will be difficult/impossible if you have a caravan hitched up.
I doubt we'll see EVs with good range and towing for the next 5 years, the battery pack size required is simply too expensive.0
