To do V2G ot V2H yo need a Chademo Vehicle as CCS and type 2 connectors dont currently support it.

OVO are running a trial at the moment, or just seasrch for V2G (Vehicle 2 Grid) for other options, although most are not really cost effective at the moment,

Thank you so early days but its starting to be considered.....I would have a household battery but waaaay too expensive at the moment. However my car is due to be changed..... interesting it doesn't cost much to charge EVS anyway so maybe I should consider EV anyway without just trying to squeeze the last kw out of my panels....

The ovo trial is interesting, wouldn't work for me because my PV produces more than the limits, I don't want the trial vehicle and not sure about smart meters...
6.72kw Pv Ja Solar 280w * 24 panels, Solar Edge inverter, South facing no shading.
South Lake District, delightful view of Morecambe Bay. Not Saving up for a battery too expensive:j:mad::hello:

Hiya. Not the same as V2H or V2G, but some BEV's look like they may come with a 13A socket, so at least that would help in the case of a powercut. I think I saw it on a preview of a Sono Sion (not production version yet) and some of the utility vehicle/pick ups that might arrive.
Mart. Cardiff. 8.72 kWp PV systems (2.12 SSW 4.6 ESE & 2.0 WNW). 20kWh battery storage. Two A2A units for cleaner heating. Two BEV's for cleaner driving.

Interesting point of view from Volvo who seem to be saying that profits on EV's will be decent (equal to ICE's) by 2025.

Or, perhaps the chosen wording is that EV profits in 2025 will match ICE profits in 2025 - not so good considering ICE profits will most likely have collapsed by then.

    Volvo 2017 profit = 10.2b SEK on 570k vehicles = £846m/570k = ~£1,500/car.

Wouldn't a plug be more useful?

Nope - if there's a powercut and there's no mains electricity to the house you could then plug household items into the car socket and use the car battery as an emergency backup. In the hope that the mains comes back on in time to put the car back on charge before you need to drive again.

Actually - Martyn said on utility vehicles. So if you set out with a full charge, you could then use the vehicle battery as an energy source for power tools while on site. Like a heavier-duty version of running a gadget from the cigarette lighter. Could well be more efficient than having a petrol generator in the back.
I need to think of something new here...

Could there be a system where I could use an electric vehicle's battery to store my excess electricity and then power my house (not supplement the grid) when I need electricity?

You're living in the future. As stageshoot says, you're looking for vehicle to grid (v2G) which is being worked on but not widely available.

For the moment, if you get solar panels, an EV, and a Zappi charger, this charger can intelligently charge the car. Take electric from the solar panels, give it to the house. If there's any spare, give it to the car. The aim is to give the car only that 'excess' solar you're talking about. Instead of giving it back to the house, you'll be using it for transport. And FYI, moving a car needs a lot more electricity than a house does!

None that I know of, but you could run DC devices from the cig lighter socket(s) and you can also buy DC-AC inverters quite cheaply. Unless you try to boil a kettle you would be fine.

Remember - the electric in the battery is DC, and a 3 pin household socket is AC, so you have to invert the electricity. Then most devices that plug in, will convert back to DC again. AC is just for long distance transmission.

No, you need a 'socket' that a plug plugs into.

Hiya, and yes, spot on. Whilst the Sono Sion socket is (I think) for emergencies, or household gadgets when out and about, the Workhorse W15 has power sockets for exactly what you've described, on-site work, remote work etc where a gennie might be needed. I believe the Rivian and Tesla pickups are to have sockets too for exactly the same reason.

Just thinking out loud now, but a BEV battery would see pretty light work from most power tools. Even a heavy duty chainsaw would only pull about 2kW, so let's say about 1kWh every hour if being used a lot. So you take the truck into 'darkest Peru', cut and thin some trees, and slice and dice for a tiring 10hr shift and consume around 10kWh of battery.

I don't have an EV, but assume almost the first thing you do when you buy one is change to a dual rate tariff and charge on cheap night rate leccy.

Depends how much mileage you do and if you are at home in the daytime. The thing about cheap nighttime rates is that they come with more expensive daytime rates. For me, witha low mileage of 6k miles a year, it would be more expensive.
