    Hi Friday Frugalistas,
It's my Big Budget Day today, so loads of money saving stuff. Seem to have been at it all day, as have also had workmen here hacking back our triffid hedges.
*Reconciled January's budget.....groceries were a little over but not enough to worry about.
*Set February's budget including deciding how much to put in the Savings Piggies this month.
*Wrote up new grocery budget sheet which lives in the front of my filofax so no excuses for not filling it in.
*Intend to use my £50 of Co-op vouchers for this week's shop so this freed up £50 for transferring to our Loan Pay Down Fund, which I did. Also paid in a bit of money from marmalade sales.
*Renewed car insurance but ONLY after phoning & asking them to match their online price. They didn't even quibble or pretend this might be difficult..........it's no fun anymore! Anyway, that knocked almost £31 off the renewal price.....which as I said to the adviser is effectively a fine for being a loyal customer. Anyway, sorted & paid the whole lot to avoid extra charges for instalments.
    *Uploaded energy meter readings.
    *Re-listed ebay items.
*I have over half of my January 'Personal Spends' left because of having flu & not going anywhere so I paid £20 into my secret tin for maybe a treat another time.
*Did a few surveys while waiting for workmen to finish.
*Hunted out all vouchers, gift cards, etc, ready for our city centre trip tomorrow.
*Make packed lunch, as I know we usually finish shopping around lunchtime & I don't want to be wasting a tenner on buying sarnies & crisps.
*Big filing session after all that budgeting. I like my financial paperwork very organised.
*Did 6 supermarket feedback prize draws. I want to win the vouchers from one of these. The £500 from Waitrose would be lovely. I'd have fun spending that!
*Did very large pile of ironing but saved some energy by only giving the bedding a bit of a rubbish press. Not up to my usual standards, but we have a warm bedspread over the duvet this time of year so if I can't see the wrinkles, they can't annoy me!
*Freezer/pantry dive for dinner. I'm having tuna melt jacket potato with a big salad & mr f appears to be constructing one of his epic stews again. I accidentally left a little bag of l/o stewing steak out last night & it defrosted before I realised........I've noticed he's grabbed that & added it to his stash of 'Things to go into the Stew'.
*Cast on 2nd sock of my current order. I didn't get round to this yesterday.
    So that's today's money-saving.
    Cheers all,
    f x

    This week I have.

    - Cashed in £10 from survey and done a few more so I am not far off another £10 I have chosen love to shop voucher as I can use this in lot of places.

    - Taken lunch to work 3 days out of 4.
    - Hair cut today which was budgeted for.
    - Made over payment on CC, so I am hoping for pleasant surprise once bill arrives later in Feb.
    - I cleaned my fridge out this week one thing I need to do is make a meal plan, as a single person I find packs of things are so large it tedious having to eat the same thing for nights on end. I need to get organised! Especially as food is creeping up in price.

    - Taken a chicken out the freezer for tomorrow and Sunday
    - My daughter has birthday party tomorrow, present from stash and saves me £4 as she will miss her normal class.
    - Avoided town today, I need to pop in but is isn't urgent, and can wait to next week when I have an appointment and paying for parking.

CCL - Yes, shame you are too far away for a jar of marmalade.......if you lived nearby we could meet up for a coffee, a moan about diets, naughty cats & you could show me some crochet sts other than doubles, trebles & chain stitch!

YorkshireLass/Bob - There used to be the EMA (Education Maintenance Allowance) grant for young people staying on in education after 16. It made the further education situation sort of fairer, really, as with just that little bit of financial help for travel or lunches, etc, it helped young people from less affluent families stay on in 6th form, etc. Sadly it was axed by David Cameron's government & despite campaigning from young people themselves at the time & political pressure from other parties, it hasn't been brought back.

FvonD - I imagine 'Grabbyman' as the size of a house with all those YS items he's buying! Let's hope he's on a low income, has a family to feed & his grabby antics are helping him with that. On the other hand, he may just be a grabby bugg*r who doesn't care what he eats as long as he doesn't have to pay full price for it. Love your tales about him, anyway. I'd be gutted if he started using a different shop!

  • ally I'm with La E on the airer - if you want it, can afford it, and get the best deal you can then why not? Whenever I do things that really light my fire, make me feel all excited and happy I wonder why I don't do that for myself regularly??? When I took my ds to go ape for his birthday I was so excited and had the best time, I've wanted to do go ape for years. Yes it was £40 but really it's a sad state of affairs if I work all year and can't bl00dy well treat myself occasionally to somethings that make my life better! Like also for years I had wanted a lush bath bomb, never got one. I bought one for my daughter then questioned why I am such a masochistic that I won't spend £5 on myself?!

Remember you are not an after thought, you get one life!

I went to buy the wheely one...but it was out of stock in all four shops that claim to sell it. :( So I just bought the regular one in the end.
