  • Hi all

Back from work at midnight. It was a long long day. Between meetings I may have found farm f**ds and spent £78 over budget on toilet rolls, tomato sauce and hellmans etc. All good stuff, but not really needed as the cupboards and full.

Now to survive today and get an early night.

    Have fun all

  • Good Morning Everyone,

I've been a bit quiet of late as I've had a lot of running about to do, as I have a few minutes I thought I'd check in.

Yesterday was a bit traumatic, DS car (he's learning to drive) started playing up just after he'd got it fixed after being off the road for a couple of weeks. I felt sorry for him as he's a student with little money to spend on it but thankfully we found that is was just one of the spark plugs was a bit loose that was causing the problem so fixed for free :-)

Today I'm hoping for NS day, I need cobs for DS lunch tomorrow but I'll make them rather than go to the bakers especially as I have everything in.

All meals today from stores, baked spuds this evening with salad and 'something' on top and I pop some form of cake in the oven at the same time.

I've sold an item on E**y so that has to be posted but I've got stamps to cover that.

Need to finish OH tax return and get it submitted.

Have to sort out a menu plan for next week but other than that I'm hoping for a relaxing day - fingers crossed.

    Greetings Money Savers,
Busy & productive day so far. Just having a lunch break, then getting back to my list. Money saving stuff so far:
*Did final load of laundry on timer in the early hours. It had finished by the time the cheap tariff swapped over to the standard one. All on heated airer. So cold outside, I don't think even a pixie's mitten would dry out on the line today!
*Cleaned whole house using minimal products & recycled or washable cloths.
*Emptied all household bins straight into wheelie bins so as not to waste a black bin bag. No charity bags through the door this week......we are usually inundated with them.
*Photographed 3 more items & listed them on ebay. Have 3 watchers on my other stuff but will they fork out that vast £1.50? That's the question of the week & I'm thinking not!
*Did quite a few surveys. Already over 5000 points on my Toluna account, despite only bottoming it out for a voucher yesterday.
*Sold another 2 jars of my home-made marmalade, making a total of nine.
*Sorted through veggie basket & fridge for 'use-it-up' veg. Have enough to stir-fry with a bit of garlic, chilli & some spices to serve with salmon tonight (800 calorie day...see below)
*Finally sorted out arrangements for tree/hedgework with local business. They are coming tomorrow which suits me fine, not least because it's my Big Budget Day & I will know straight away how much the bill will be instead of having to guess. We do have electric hedgecutters but the huge amount of hedge means we'd need to buy extra large bags & make at least 10 trips to the tip,if not more, so the once a year fee to a local business is well worth it,
*Looked through recipe books for some affordable tasty new recipes around 400-450 calories. I don't buy 'diet food' or slimming-type brands. I find we can eat pretty much most things in moderation as long as we stick to a calorie allowance. Current diet plan is 2 days each week on 800 cals & the remaining 5 days on 1500. I can tell you that 800 is quite money-saving!!
*Free fitness walking to post box & attacking the hoovering with gusto (because I was desperate for my coffee)
*mr f has been dealing with the broken leg on our new radiator. £300, so we didn't really expect bits to be breaking so soon. I looked out all the paperwork & yesterday he rang the number for 'If you experience any problems or require any spare parts'. This was spectacularly useless as he was told 'We don't have any parts for those heaters at all'. Hmmm. He rattled off an email to 'Ideal World'......we are not usually TV shoppers so were wondering how helpful they are when their goods are faulty, but he's had a reply today to say that they are going to enquire how we might obtain a new leg......that's all we need. It just screws on. It's a great heater so really don't want the faff of returning the whole thing, having to set up a new one, etc, etc. Fingers crossed for speedy SENSIBLE resolution.
    STILL TO DO:
    *Next week's meal plans
    *Start shopping list
*Work on current sock order. Finished 1st one last night. Must cast on 2nd one today. The previous order I did?Just heard today that the customer really liked them (I chose the colourways, so there was just that little bit of doubt) & a cheque should not be too long away. Yay!!
OK, on with the meal plans......kettle on first, though I think.
    Cheers all,
    f x

  • lateish post but some good done today:

WFH so managed to squeeze in a few extra tasks ;)
Check banking, surveys, FPL and £co
E-mailed one provider who keep e-mailing me to answer a question they missed out of a survey but when I log in it says participation is closed.
Tea from stores, mu5cle food delivery arrived, so one of those for tea. Lunch I treated OH and I to a french stick and some YS salmon/chicken slices. Slight indulgence but much cheaper than going to the local cafe :A
DH sorted out our bedroom, spring cleaned it and taken loads of stuff out of our wardrobe and put in the new airing cupboard :D
He found a tin that my DD had hidden a few weeks ago that I couldn't find for love or money that had sentimental value :j
Made a payment to my CC (for points only)
Need to dig out vouchers for JL for weekend as we are going to the nearby town for something so will split the 2 vouchers between the 4 of us
Out with friend tonight, will spend no more than £3 as we buy one round each. Judging by the temperature my round will likely be tea or hot chocolate :rotfl:
Got a new class for DD swimming as she has now moved up a group :T Hopefully time will be better all round
Going to talk to DH about a new (to us) car for him, his is really on it's last legs and we don't like using it in the winter/very cold which defeats some of the object, particularly when I'm at work so he has to use it. I've been looking and think I have come up with a sensible option.

    Hi all,

Well the car needed a new tyre in the end but they did reduce the cost by the amount I paid on Monday for the fix so its not all bad. I also went to main dealer, as on my route, for bulb and windscreen wiper which turned out to be cheaper than H@lfords and they fit for free...whilst I was waiting I helped myself to a complimentary Galaxy hot chocolate and a few little shortcake biscuits. Sitting in a car showroom isn't the same as a cafe but it smelled nice :D I also enquired about MOT costs etc so more in the know for my yearly budget as previously guessing - only bad thing is apparently my number plates are illegal and will fail my MOT in December (no space in the middle) so will have to ensure I budget for £30 for two new plates. Fingers crossed my car is now ok for at least a little while!

I paid in my cheque and put in my application for financial support for my course (hear back next week and really relying on the hope of being successful).
LSD today as fresh veg I need in next couple of days anyway was reduced but already spent on car so thought may as well - no point missing on cutting the cost for the sake of a NSD.
No expenditure on snacks or drinks whilst out so that is an achievement for me! I gave a homeless person £1...not much but I find it very hard to see someone sat in the cold and know the services are just not adequate enough to house them all over night. I really don't have enough to be giving anything away but I think he was more thankful that I acknowledged him than for the £1 I gave.

The urge to go to the pub this weekend is high. Haven't been out in almost 4 weeks but must see this as a good thing.
Happiness is wanting what you have...

    * Kids tea sorted, they'll have jacket spuds with the last of the meatballs/sauce (we all had it last night and it tasted even nicer then the day before and the pickled onions weren't bad either!) done and they chose to have it with the traffic light rice so it as even easier!
    * Our tea, I've got chicken out of the freezer, need to do some traffic light rice with it, (it was a recipe the kids got when they did a free cookery course at Mr T's a couple of years ago, Rice with turmeric, cumin, sweetcorn, peas and red peppers) done

** Made a date cake from stores using ood dates, (June 2012) when I first started on this thread I think it was about 26 bags of these ood dates, I now have only 8 bags left!! :j
** Recharging the wardrobe moisture absorbers that I got from Lakeland, used to get disposable ones but finding these much better and they have already worked out more cost effective :)
** I have binned some food   Not like me at all but it was some ood pickled red cabbage (bbe 2013) that my parents had had and not liked so sent over for dh, its been in the fridge and dh said last night he didn't like it either so its been binned.
** Tidied Fridge & Freezer, checked that the freezer inventory is still up to date - love having it in my Bullet journal as it means I'm more organised :)
** Continue use up of screen/glasses sprays :)
** Hoovered only where needed :)
** Dejunk and unsubscribes to emails on all three accounts

Got quite a bit done today and feeling a bit more organised at last :)
Sticking with the "Small things" thread to keep up us on the straight and narrow.
