Evening all :hello: had a rotten evening and spent last half hour in tears (nothing serious or ongoing, just a stupid situation that got to me a bit much :o )

Anyway, it's nothing that actually needs dealing with so just popping in with a list of money saving achievements to distract me enough to make a cuppa which will make everything right with the world :)

    So, today I have:

    * had porridge for breakfast
    * took home made soup/brea/snacks to work
    * took both flask AND travel mug in - I do a course in another office on Wednesday afternoon and always end up buying tea at the start and in the break - but today I took tea in the travel mug to have at the start, and hot choc in the flask for the break :j Had enough snacks and avoided cafe altogether :D

    * cycled to work/course/home - last year time was tighter and I ended up getting taxis every week then the bus home, costing about £5 in total, plus maybe £3-5 in cafe, every week  today I paid NOTHING :j

    * going to London tomorrow for a meeting - getting fed lunch but train is 7.30 so I'll need a flask of tea at thevery least... :o may be meetig a pal for food afterwoods but there's a tube strike so she may not make it - I might take emergency snack for train home so I'm not tempted

    * that's it I think, always feel like I've done more but not even done any washing to hang on radiators :rotfl:

Oh, did do a sw@gbucks survey but that's it :)

There, feeling calmer and more civilised already :j

Aaaaaaaaargh!, the online tax thing is driving me mental

I was apparently okay end for verification overnight, I've got right to the end and every time I hit submit it asks me to verify again, which then takes me back to veridentity  I then go back to the tax return (where I'm still logged in) and try to send and it does the same again :mad::mad:

I will try again tomorrow in case there is an error their end but I swear next year I'm going to submit on paper.

The system went mad on us too. Sorted now but 2 hours to get in and verfied and just 5 mins to do the return.

    Good news from Dowd Towers:

After an uncertain week I've managed to get my existing employment contract renewed so, even if I don't get the promotion I've applied for, I'll still have a job in Senior Management for a while longer.

And I'm changing shifts resulting in me getting a whole 6 days off just now without having to use a penny of my holiday pay! :D

    However, the cooker is misbehaving...

  • Morning :) as I say most mornings, I'm late as I overslept! Must do something to get motivated by work again! Will need to do a bit of work this evening to make up the time...

Have a ms assignment this morning so that's breakfast sorted ;)

went to my friend's last night and borrowed several options for the 70s outfit I need in a couple of weeks - really funky stuff and not a penny spent :D

    in other news:

    * soup, fruit & yogurt for lunch for me, lo chorizo pasta for oh & ys sausage roll for madam
    * other than ms assignment possibly no spends but going to nip to the tescos near work and see if there are any ys yogurts for madam as the ones in the freezer are nearly gone...
    * take note of mileage and update expenses as am a little behind with this
    * email myself policy about loaning some money for education from work - need to look into this for masters and if it works out better for me than from the SLC
    * look at meal plan and grab something from freezer
    * hang up washing
    * might go for a run this evening but am a bit of a wuss when it comes to running in the dark :o

Ok that's all better get a move on!

    Morning all :)
Nice to have you along HK :)
Good news on the contract Ally, I was a contractor for some years, and remember that feeling...
Cheery, hope you have a better day today :(

    My list for today:
    Clean bathroom Not yet :o
Surgery this morning for another blood test. I will walk, free exercise :)Done
DH to dentist's - that won't be cheap  Done, no bill yet
5 ebay items to pack and post :)Done
Must list more things today! Managed 3, so better than nothing
Need to do a proper shop, will do Lidls, and Sainsburys for the bits Lidls don't have :)Done, a bit of a marathon doing both (in different parts of town) but worth it for the money saved! Picked up a couple of wine boxes in Sainsburys for ebay posting, they haven't had many out lately :(
Had to replace the electric kettle as it had sprung a leak  It had stopped turning itself off when it boils ages ago, but the leak was the deciding factor! Managed to get one for £15 reduced in Mr S :)
Received a cheque for business, so did paperwork related to that. Must pay it in tomorrow
Take a few things to sales unit Done
Read meters and enter readings onto energy company's web site Done
    HM soup for lunch Done
DS is cooking dinner, though by the sounds of it, I will need to make a salad to go with it! Underway
Check for surveys A couple for onepoll

OK, more coffee, then time to get on! Only done breakfast / dishwasher so far!

    Morning all :hello:

Excellent news Ally, well done! :j still fingers crossed for the promotion though :)

    Today...

    * brought my porridge on the train meaning I had brealfast at normal time not stupid o clock so shouldn't need second breakfast :D

    * brought tea with me - although had to ask refreshment trolley man to get lid off my flask as I gave myself a blister trying and still couldnt do it! most embarrassing - especially as it was ME who screwed it on in the first place :o :rotfl:

    * brought snacks for journey home

    * might be meeting friend for tea (willbe in Wethersp00ns) but tube strike may foil plans - in which case I shouldn't need to spend anything. We'll see.

    * car insurance renewal came last night - £209 which I think is quite reasonable (I'd put aside £250) so I might not bother with comparison sites this time - only just did house one and managed to save NOTHING over renewal price. Mayve this is how they get you - first renewal is cheap, second extortionate?? will definitely check next year!

That's it I think, have a good day all, love reading about your plans :j

Savvy Shopper! I've been Money Tipped!
    Morning

A great start to the day. An item has sold on eBay for £40 :) I have been in an eBay dry spell since November when I sold a big item. But nothing since. I had relisted everything for the eleventy one hundredth time yesterday and this morning kerching!!!

    1. Package up the above and post
    2. OH is working from home today so that's a saving of £8.77 in daily fares
    3. Used up some of the bread left over from doing a sandwich buffet at the weekend.
    4. PAD
    5. Use up chilli and the extra, enormous jacket potato I cooked last night to split between us for lunch today.
    6. Keep travel cost to £1.50 for the day by doing my long walk to school.
    7. List one new item on eBay to replace the one sold.
    8. Entertain DD for free, library and park
    9. Check banking
    10. Hoover through.

    Have a great day.

Cheery, I always struggle with flask lids for some reason!

** Made a date cake from stores using ood dates, (June 2012) when I first started on this thread I think it was about 26 bags of these ood dates, I now have only 8 bags left!! :j
** Recharging the wardrobe moisture absorbers that I got from Lakeland, used to get disposable ones but finding these much better and they have already worked out more cost effective :)
** I have binned some food   Not like me at all but it was some ood pickled red cabbage (bbe 2013) that my parents had had and not liked so sent over for dh, its been in the fridge and dh said last night he didn't like it either so its been binned.
** Tidied Fridge & Freezer, checked that the freezer inventory is still up to date - love having it in my Bullet journal as it means I'm more organised :)
** Continue use up of screen/glasses sprays :)

Sticking with the "Small things" thread to keep up us on the straight and narrow.

    Morning all,

Great to see a hive of activity and so many staying on target and motivated!

Today I have to go back to tyre place as its going flat again after repair...fingers crossed it doesn't mean a new tyre and they can just fix it with no charge. Noticed a side light bulb out too so already more money and over my car maintenance budget this month. But, still not letting it cause me to panic or justify going on a splurge as its all ruined anyway...its not its just unfortunate and will balance out.

*Breakfast at home and dinner will be from meal plan.
    *Lunch and water bottle packed.
*Will take check into bank on route this morning as forgot yesterday.
*Course finance application to be handed in (completed yesterday)
*Cancelling Netflix...big one for me but this debt won't pay itself off although that would be lovely:D
*NSD planned - yesterday ended up being a LSD but I did buy 4 chocolate bars for £1 as I know its unrealistic for me to not have any treats and will only lead to a splurge. So 4 for £1 rather that 70p each is not so bad. Weds are usually my treat (packet of sweets she is allowed to choose)for DD day so need to keep that in mind in future.

    Have a fantastic day!

    Hi everyone

Nice one on the ebay sale Bob - I gave up with ebay a few years ago after a bad run of moany people... Might get back into it at some point
Ally - great to hear about your job.

I'm working from home today. Still not 100%. :( Thought I was fine yesterday but still can't really eat anything. :( I registered at the docs but it takes 72 h to appear on their system so I won't be able to get an appointment before then. As my mother would say, I could be dead and buried

    So here's me:
    - Not eating is v DFW
    - OH took brekkie and lunch to work :A
    - Heating is off :A
    - Will boil the kettle for a hot drink and a hot water bottle at the same time ;)
    - More crochet tonight - have cotton for dish cloths and reusable/washable cotton pads :A
    - Picking up OH later...kinda like free transport as petrol is another budget :p

Amazed that we still only have 1 car and are surviving. :D Had a comedy moment last night when the car swap was taking place at Tesco car park... Fine, I thought...until I realised he hadn't told me where he parked! Had visions of me walking round the car park for hours in the dark looking for a dark grey car!! :rotfl: Thankfully he was v thoughtful and parked just where I come into the car park (which is kinda round the back) so I was lucky! :rotfl:

We justify having to get the odd taxi etc as still a lot cheaper than another car loan...

Today may not be an NSD for me as if I cancel my class I'll still need to pay £16.50 for venue hire. Ho hum...
