In true OS style....Hot water bottles

I don't like getting into a warm bed (the same as I don't like a warm toilet seat!), but if my feet are cold I use 'warm things' (named by the kids) made of an old sock filled with uncooked rice or oats, tied in a knot and then another sock over the top to prevent Houdini grains getting out. After 2 mins in the microwave and a smoosh round, they are just right. They don't stay hot for as long as a hot water bottle but they're enough to make things comfortable and they're priceless when it comes to sore necks/tummies/ear-ache/"I just cant get to sleep, mummy".0

Rather than an electric blanket I used to have a fleece covered mattress protector. Now that really did warm up the bed in winter.
Not sure what happened to it as I removed it every spring as soon as the weather warmed up, but it certainly made a huge difference and my bed was soft warm and cosy, with no extra electricity costs.'I'm sinking in the quicksand of my thought

My oldie boy Bugsy cat has two HWB's in his bed. I refresh them three times a day. He tells me when they are cold.

I have 2 long narrow wheat bags which are handy for draping around my neck or placing in small of back sitting in a chair, but my best ever find some years ago is a cherry stone bag, about 10" square, once heated in the microwave it is really warm and holds it's heat for hours, it seems to reabsorb some of my body heat and never feels cold, I usually use all three in bed at night, I am anaemic and feel the cold badly so I can often be found wandering around the house with cherry one clutched to my body, like a child with a comfortor:DThe best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time. On a slightly different tangent but still hwb-themed. A hwb on your lap when you are driving in really cold weather is lovely.
It's also useful to pop it above the dashboard by the front windscreen to help warm it up more quickly when you are de-icing the car before setting off.

Ilona I have a few of the old stoneware ones that I would put in the rabbit and guinea pig hutches. Warm in winter and cold in summer. The cold ones were greatly appreciated on hot days as furries seem to overheat even in the shade!0 -
I love a hwb on my feet, snuggled under a blanket watching TV. I like a cool bedroom, but a warm bed so it'll sometimes come to bed with me.0

I must admit my Zafira has heated front seats which are brilliant on cold days and warm you up quicker than the car heater does, lovely for your back as well0

We are never without hot water bottles at this time of year whether in bed or sat downstairs under large fleecy blankets. When my late mum was growing up (1930s-40s) she told me they use to use wrapped up hot oven shelves to take to bed.
I have seen one of those old fashioned long handled pans that people filled with hot coals (don't know what they're called) but I couldn't help thinking if anyone's bed use to catch fire! :eek:0 -
We have 2 hwbs and a wheat bag and use them a lot. On our knees under a fleece while on the sofa and in bed too. Hwbs stay warm for ages and the wheat bag is great for targetting specific areas. I love to snuggle with them if I'm a bit 'under-the-weather'.
