At a pinch, you could just eat them. That's how 99% of the world's date production ends up.

    Hi johnlincoln,

We have an older thread with more ideas for dates so I've merged your thread with it to keep all the suggestions together.

I got some dried dates on offer in Julian Graves. I have made the banana and date bars from the recipe thread (still in oven :) ) Does anyone else have any other nice recipes for dates? I have lots of other dried fruit in the cupboard, so any fruit cake/loaf recipe would be welcome.

    Thanks,
    Pru
  • You could make "devils on horseback", which are dates wrapped in streaky bacon and fried. Wrap a date in a slice of streaky bacon, put a cocktail stick through the middle to stop the bacon unwrapping, and fry them until the bacon is cooked. You don´t need to add any oil to the pan as the fat from the bacon will be enough to fry them. When cooked, he date will be warm and soft and the combination of sweet and savoury is delicious.

Sorry, forgot to mention that we are vegetarian. Dd became a vegetarian a couple of years ago and then I got a vegetarian boyfriend, so find it easier to cook what they will eat.

Make a nice sticky ginger cake and chop a few ounces of dates to go in it. Very yummy. Or just eat them out of the packet. Very yummy too!!!:D

The bars sound nice - how do you get onto the recipe thread, or am I being unusually thick?:o
